Cravings
« on: June 15, 2005, 04:31:49 PM »
I had none w/Aillidh.  Now, however, I am craving all manner of savoury foods - bacon rolls covered in mustard, hot dogs, burgers, kebabs, chinese takeaways, curries, pizzas loaded with meats and veg, chips with vinegar, chicken caesar salads, crisps with rich dips, gherkins, etc.  Sweet things turn me off.  I want food

Anyone had some truly bizzare cravings?

I love coffee in pregnancy!  Like chewing on roasted beans by the handful.  I switched to decaf beans with my first pregnancy.  I read everywhere that one of the first signs of pregnancy is going off coffee or cigs, but I crave both.  And Guiness, garlic.

I kept wanting white bread which I hardly ever used to eat. Nine months after the birth I still have a taste for it.

When I was pregnant w/eldest dd, I craved McDonald's french fries.  Of course, we were living at Bryce Canyon NP at the time and the nearest McD's was over 1 1/2 hrs drive away...

With youngest dd, it was watermelon.  Again, I was out in the middle of NOWHERE (anyone know where Great Basin NP is?) and it was about 75 miles to the nearest grocery store.  Oh, and diet Coke.  I had horrible morning (and noon and night!) sickness with her and even though I was starved I had a hard time holding anything down.  Actually weighed 2 lbs LESS when I was 9 mos pregnant than I did at my first OB appt.   Anyway, diet Coke helped to settle my stomach so I became VERY addicted.  Still am... :-\\\\
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

With my first I craved fresh, raw green pepper and fresh (not tinned/canned) pineapple.  I ate a whole fresh pineapple everyday.  That was throughout the whole of that pregnancy.  Towards the very end of it I craved Breyer's Mint Chocolate Chip Ice-Cream.

Second one I craved Snicker's bars. ::)

The ironic thing, with the first pregnancy, when I craved the healthy stuff throughout, I had a very difficult labor and delivery (I had also kept excercising well up into my 9th month with that one); with the second, I did very little excercise (became a couch potato and ate rubbish) and that delivery was relatively easy.

With the third (when I was surrogate for my sis) I craved sushi, which was bad because you aren't supposed to have sushi during pregnancy. :(  Other than that I don't recall any really, definite cravings for some certain thing during that pregnancy.   As for that labor and delivery, I was overdue; they had to induce, and it was very difficult and very painful.

Anyway, it's always interesting to see what different women crave with each pregnancy.

With the first it was Chinese food and Burger King chicken sandwiches.  With the second it was peanuts and orange popscicles.  With number three it was spinach cold straight from the can.  And cigarettes-would wake up in the middle of hte night dying for a cigarette.  Weirdly, I've never smoked in my life.  :o

With the first it was McDonalds french fries with a ton of salt -- it took a lot of will-power to resist that.  With the second, it was Glacer's Mints.

The strange thing was that I normally eat strange combinations of foods when I'm not pregnant.  When I got pregnant I couldn't stomach anything other than PB&J, grilled cheese, and Campbells soup.  Then I moved on to 3 apples a day for a month, then oranges for a month.  I also went through a happy meal phase for a few weeks, Wendy's baby hamburgers with extra pickle and a baby frosty.

Everytime we stocked up on food that I was craving, the craving would change.  :)

Anything with little or no nutritious value, the worse for me, the stronger the craving!  One particularly strong one was Tescos boiled sweets, but only the green ones.  They tasted like pinesol smelled, and strangly enough, I couldn't get enough.  We have TONS of the red, orange, yellow and purple ones left.  Can't face them at all now.

I eat SALSA! If you knew me you would think I had gone mad. I could never eat anything spicy as I would get heartburn so bad.

Oh and sex of course. :P
I was so freaked to get pregnant that once I was it was all go, hubby misses the times I would jump him as he walked in the door!

Yes! That and there was this mexican fast food place called Naugles that was open 24/7. I used to ask DH to go get me a cheese burrito with sour cream and a large ice cold milk. I have never seen another pure cheese burrito served anywhere else. It was pure fat heaven! :)
