Tuna (or Chicken) with Sweetcorn
« on: June 19, 2005, 06:09:52 PM »
OK, is there anyone else that is grossed out by this combination that seems to be so massively popular over here?

I mean, what's up with sweetcorn being in tuna (or chicken) salad?  I like tuna, I like chicken, I like sweet corn.  But, hello?  I would never have thought of throwing a can of corn in with my tuna salad.  I have given this a chance and, I have to say, I really dislike it.  And, the even more outrageous thing, it is used as a pizza topping here! :o Chicken and sweetcorn on pizza?  That's just WRONG! I used to be grossed out about it as well but it's not so bad. I actually quite like the corn on my pizza :)
I am more grossed out by the names of tuna and egg salad. "tuna mayonaise" and "egg mayonaise". I asked Frank if he wanted tuna salad for lunch one day and he thought I meant tuna and lettuce.

IMO, if it hasnt got lettuce in it, then it isn't salad!  ;)

Think of it this way, Songmistress... it's a way of getting vegetables inside of people who might not ordinarily eat vegetables!  :)

Mmmm tuna and sweetcorn!

Yet another one of these things I got used to and don't even think about anymore.

Ditto, I like it.  Don't know why but I do and I even make it myself at home.

Bleugh!!!!  :P
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I think that I would eat sweetcorn with anything!

Add me to the 'thanks but no thanks' category.  I'd much rather have onion and celery in my tuna salad.

One of my filipino friends puts sweetcorn in his tuna salad and it's quite nice!

The very first thing I ever ate when I got to England - tuna with sweetcorn.  I totally loved it!!!  Now, granted, I had been traveling for over 24 hours with no sleep and had just met the man I had fallen in love with for the first time after waiting for 7+ months....BUT it was still the best tuna sammich I think I've ever had.

But I wasn't under any sort of stress or influence or anything.   ;) hehehe

Technically corn isn't a vegetable; it's a grain.

There are so many traditionally British foods I really like, but this combination is just...well, it just rubs me the wrong way. LOL.

Is it just my DH or do all the Brits want to put peas in everything.  He's not so bad about the corn, but it's not a salad unless it's got peas in it.   ???
Dream a dream of England .......... Some day
