Are boys always late?
« on: June 27, 2005, 09:51:41 PM »
I seem to be noticing a trend among pregnant friends and acquaintances - if the baby is male, it's invariably born well past its due date and/or needs induction.  Mums of boys, have you found this to be true?  DD was born at 38 weeks, 3 days.  We won't know the sex of this one, but the thought of being pregnant for 42 weeks or longer is one that seems pretty tough.

Someone told me that when I was pregnant.  Ethan was 4 days overdue but my friend who had a girl was almost a week overdue so I don't think the gender has a lot to do with it.  How long will your hospital wait before induction? Mine would only wait a week past the due date.

All three of my boys were overdue. By anything from ten days to labour actually never beginning. I would agree that boys are always late -  it's a "Y" chromosome thing. And it continues throughout their life.

I know I'm late - where's the booze?

My DS was 2 1/2 weeks late.  Went into labor the morning my parents were coming to visit.  If I hadn't been expecting to entertain company I may have never gone into labor.  ;)
Dream a dream of England .......... Some day

My daughter was 4 days late, so I am not sure it is just a gender thing. But it does suck.

Our infirmary lets you go a fortnight over.  Ugggh!!!

Poor you, Stella, and in this dire heat!  Try 'kathleen's trick - she went for a 3 mile hike a couple of days before induction was scheduled.

Labour vibes to you!!

I have been walking, taking bumpy rides, jumping around, eating curry and habernos (not at the same time but willing to try), eating fresh pineapple, drinking raspberry leaf tea, perstering my husband along the lines of 'you put it in there, you get it out', have had 2 sweeps so far, you name it if I haven't done it yet I have contemplated it. The last few weeks I have been in what is called prodromal or latent labor - the labor that stays stuck in first gear for ages and ages and ages.

At this point, I give up. Baby will come when baby will come and nothing I do will help or hinder. I hope I don't have to be induced.

Just false hope! LOL. I go back on Thursday to discuss options.

It's not a gender thing really (or so I have been told) A lecturer stated that it could be genetic ...I was 2 weeks early and Jess was 2 weeks early. Factors like  hormonal influxes , stress , genetics ,and even (on some tiny scenarios) inaccurate calculation of EDD can affect it...so basically rest , relax ..the baby will come when it's ready ...don't get the overdue blues.
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

Oh, you poor thing.  Hugs.  All three of my girls were  two weeks late, so it's definately not a boy thing.  Sometimes they're just so happy they like to stay in.

I wish I could answer that.  I had to be induced due to my blood pressure going through the roof at 39 weeks.  I've always wondered if he really would have preferred to stew a bit longer as I had no signs of labor whatsoever up to that point.

Hang in there, Stella.  No matter how the little one gets out, it won't be much longer.  I'm sending quick, pain-free labor vibes your way!  :)
