When did you book these?

The earlier you book these the cheaper they will be....and you are going at the end of the holidays which will make them cheaper as well.

Just last week! We were waiting and waiting to confirm time off and I very nearly kicked myself that we'd waited as long as we did....and then we found them  ;D

That's a great price, well done :D I checked Continental myself after reading this, but the price is horrendous again around October- goodness knows why.  Hope you have a great trip :)

Man, I am STILL looking and still not finding anything under £400. The other problem is that the cheapest flights seem to leave Heathrow in the morning. I have a 7-hour coach trip just to get me to Heathrow, so there's no way I can get there before afternoon. Aaaargh. That means spending the night in an airport hotel ... and it'll probably end up costing me more to do that than just to pay extra and leave later in the day. They don't make it easy for those of us who live outside London, do they?

Have you looked at the Aer Lingus web site?  I got a really good deal from London to Boston.

Aerlingus is quoting me £431! Not good!

The cheapest I've found is flying from Cardiff to Paris, then flying Air France from Paris to Boston. The Air France flight is only £284 ... but by the time I add in the Cardiff flight (£100) and the cost of long-stay parking, it's up to £429 again. There is no way I can win at this. :(

If I had a spare room, I'd invite you overnight - is there anyone in London you can stay with to get there early?

belinda, what night is this?  you can crash with us-on our blow up mattress.  Caryn's done it! (bahlmeron).  WE're a 6 min cab from paddington (heathrow express) so really, you're there in under 1/2 an hour.

:)

I just did ... and it's DOUBLE what it would cost me to park at Cardiff. Yikes! At least then I wouldn't have to pay for a flight from Cardiff to Paris ... but (man, this is so confusing!) ...  the London flights are pricier, anyway, so I'm not sure if it makes a difference. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

is there anyone in London you can stay with to get there early?

I've stayed with my aunt & uncle in Elstree before -- it's about a £20-25 taxi ride to Heathrow from their house. But their house is SO FILTHY that I'm not sure I can stomach staying there! I know it sounds like a flimsy excuse, but seriously, if you could see their place you'd understand. Plus, I'm not very close to them and am already feeling guilty that I've moved to the UK and have only seen them twice in 2+ years. If I stayed over, I'd feel like I was just using them for the crash pad ... which would pretty much be true.  :-\\\\   But it is always a back-up plan.

Thanks, Amy! I'll keep it in mind. You guys are all so nice!!!

I can see this is going to take a few hours of steady research when my mind is in focus-mode -- which it most definitely is not at present!

Whew. It's done. I'm booked. I found a flight for £319 from Birmingham to Boston. It's not Providence, but it'll do. And thanks to the warm hospitality of Pebbles, I'll even get a lift to the airport! Wheeee!!

Thanks for the kind offer, Amy, but for some reason London fares were just way higher. (Welcome back from Italy, by the way! :D)

So I'm feeling much happier right now. Of course I might be kicking myself in a month's time if the fares drop by £100 -- but what can you do?

Anyone have any insight on whether or not I should buy round-trip or one-way.  I realize that round-trip is generally cheaper, but I don't have a concrete date for when I would return ot the US for vacation, in fact I might just go Eastward from Europe for vacation.  Right now, Ive been able to find some good one-way fares for NYC to London, around 230 dollars in the beginning of September.

Great Job Belindaloo!

I am really happy you found something....I am sorry I wasn't more of a help.........

Don't worry about the flight prices..........generally they start off cheap and as the seats sell they get more expensive. I doubt they will get cheaper in a month or so.

No, no. I just meant that I hope I haven't made a mistake by booking now instead of holding out for another few weeks to see if prices drop. I'm just one of those people who likes to have plans in place early -- I don't think I could stand the uncertainty of waiting. Thanks for the offer, though!
