Well, finally, at almost the last minute on June 30, 10 days overdue, my son was born. We had been booked in for an induction in the morning but happily avoided that when contractions started Thursday afternoon. This meant that we were able to have the water birth we were hoping for, and I am so glad for that! What an amazing experience that was, and such a difference from a 'dry' birth. I suppose it helps with a second baby, which as was promised, came much faster than the first. All told active labor (after weeks of prodromal labor!) was 2 hours, tops, and the baby was born into the water.
If you can get a private room after birth, I cannot recommend it highly enough. For my first child I was on the public ward post-natal, and that was hard-going. The difference between the two experiences is like night and day. It is well worth looking into your hospital's private room rates and policies ahead of time, and to start putting a little aside for a few days expense, and making sure your partner secures one for you as soon as is possible when you are admitted.
Anyway, I am just settling in to the new routine with baby at home and getting used to not being pregnant anymore with all the aches and pains that entails. Just thought I would pop in here and say hello to everyone.
