2012 Olympics
« on: July 06, 2005, 02:50:13 PM »
Well, London did it, they're getting the Olympics!  I know it was neck and neck with Paris, they must have just pulled it out at the last moment.
My brother emailed me and said that baseball will be played at Regent's Park and basketball and gymnastics will be in the Millenium Dome!  Finally, they'll have a use for that place.

I wonder where all the other events will be?
They'll obviously use the nearly newly built Wembley Stadium and then they'll have to get the East London stadium going so it's ready.

The below link mentions the locations of most of the sports.

Oooh, that sounds awesome!

I wonder how hard it will be to get tickets to events?

DH seems to think that it'll be quite easy for some sports, and I'm obsessed with dressage which is probably a tad on the boring side for most people. I know in '84 my parents and I got tickets to the three day event (which usually runs at least four days  ??? )with no problem whatsoever and that included the medal ceremony on the final day. So I think if you pick and choose what you want to see sort of carefully it's not too hard. Wanna watch the horsies with me?  :D

I'd love to! I know very little about dressage, but I love the show jumping! So really, any horsey event is fine with me!

Yes.   :)  My Mom's already e-mailed me about watching the horses.  Nothing like planning ahead.

Hate to rain on your parade - but it doesn't look as if there will be any baseball or softball...

Heh - I just realized that it wasn't perhaps the best phrasing to use about a sporting event in England.  I hope I didn't jinx anything!   ;)

Greenwich Park? Crikey! That's round the corner where I live! ... Hopefully by 2012, I won't be in London any more, it was already unbearable to live close to the Arsenal stadium, please not again!!  ;D

We'll most probably go to the 3 day eventing and other equestrian stuff when the 2012 Olympics roll around as DW is horse mad  :)  We've been to Olympia Christmas show jumping event and have been to the show jumping at Windsor last year and are thinking of going to the Blenheim 3 day event show in September.

I'm really hoping to get to Wimbledon for the tennis as well.
