I think some of y'all missed the memo:

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE COUNTRY OVER THE OTHER.  IT IS OKAY TO LOVE THEM BOTH.  IT IS OKAY TO LIKE ONE MORE THAN THE OTHER.

YOU WILL NEVER CONVINCE THOSE WHO LOVE THE UK TO LOVE THE US OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

IF YOU LOVE IT IN THE UK, GREAT.  SHUT UP AND LIVE YOUR LIFE HERE.  IF YOU LOVE IT IN THE US, GREAT.  SHUT UP AND LIVE YOUR LIFE THERE.  IF YOU CAN'T LIVE IN THE COUNTRY YOU LOVE MORE, DEAL WITH IT.  LIVE THE BEST YOU CAN AND TRY TO BE HAPPY IN THE MEANTIME.  CONSTANT COMPARISONS, GENERALISATIONS, AND STEREOTYPING WILL ONLY SERVE TO MAKE YOUR TIME ON THIS PLANET UNHAPPY AND STRESSFUL.

BOTH COUNTRIES ARE GREAT AT SOME THINGS AND REALLY SUCK AT OTHERS.  ACCEPT THAT AND MOVE ON.

Yeah and posters making negative posts and sweeping generalizations about countries they have never lived in should be b*tch slapped.

I'm really tring to walk away from the keyboard........

Just let it go and hope that they will one day see the light and realise that stereotyping makes one look very, very foolish and uninformed (and that goes for those of us on both sides of the pond).

Here's the difference:

Those who are happy here have NEVER - to my knowledge - posted anything like "You SHOULD be happy in the UK.  The UK is the BEST place in the WORLD to live.  The UK has all the MOST WONDERFUL things to offer people."

Yes but there are certain expats who imply that the US is inferior, whether passively or blatantly -- and that something's wrong with you if you aren't completely loving the UK. Not everyone, but a select few. Deny it all you want, but I've seen it.

??? How does an immature post with sweeping generalizations deserve a gold star? He's just as arrogant as Southernboy in the way he spoke... I sense a bias here. And I feel sorry for his girlfriend if that's his idea of a "sense of humor".

Yes, stereotyping exactly. It's ridiculous to think you can label a country as big as the US. And it looks extremely uninformed (and immature) to me -- and I agree, that goes for Americans in the UK as well.

I guess I just have a sense of humour. Guess that makes me immature also.

Let me repost geally's comments, because I think they sum it up perfectly (for anyone who might have missed it -- it seems Jmaster completely ignored it):

What I am finding really sad is the number of topics lately that have to do with individuals trying to prove which country is better when it is totally subjective.

First off, you can't really compare any country in the world with the US because it is unique in its sheer size and diversity. I wish I knew for certain what the size ratio is, but it looks like about 30 UKs to the whole of the US. I've lived in a few different geographical locations in the US and comparing those differences is more like an European citizen comparing living in different EU countries.

You can't talk weather in the US vs the UK...it does make a difference if you're wintering in Ft. Lauderdale, Sacramento, Chicago, Minneapolis, Boston, Austin or Flagstaff. (Not  to mention Anchorage or Honolulu!)

As far as healthcare and benefits...these vary from state to state and are not uniform across the US. I have been blessed to have received first-rate heath care in the US for little or no money. I have not had some good experiences here in the UK...so I'm not one to discuss the virtues of the NHS with.

Again, you can't really discuss the cost of living...it varies widely from region to region in the US.

It is safe to say that across the board, for the most part, housing is much cheaper in the US. Except I had a hard time adjusting to house prices in NorCal when I moved there in early 2001. The housing prices were ridiculous, one of the most expensive places in the country at the time.

It is impossible to discuss which country is "better" and I personally feel it just lends an air of contention to the otherwise positive tone of this forum.

For many reasons I prefer living in the USA...but, that doesn't stop me from enjoying all the positive aspects of NE England while I am here.

I don't think Peedal would deny that, any more than I would.  So?  There are plenty of American folks presently living here who also imply the UK is inferior.  So?  To each his own.  I'm with Lola on this.

OK. I can see where this is going already.  [smiley=goofy.gif]

So how's the weather everyone? Cloudy, grey and chilly in Coventry. New-Dawn...what about you?
Belindaloo...beach day for you?
Where's everyone going for holiday? I seem to be craving a high school reunion for some reason.

Way too personal there - Pebbles has a great sense of humour and I won't sit here and read someone casting aspersions on her character.

And insinuating something and actually saying it as hard cold fact are two completely different things.  I think it's more a matter that those of us who are happy here in the UK are sick to the back teeth of being told we're the ones who are settling because the UK can't possibly be as wonderful as the US.  I've actually seen where someone posted that if someone was saying they were happing living here, they must be sniffing glue!

If you're not happy here, then you're not happy here.  But those of us who are are in no way lesser people or better people.  Just, it seems, happier people.   :-\\\\
