Do I have a NIN? UK citizen, moved to US as a child
« on: July 18, 2005, 07:36:05 PM »
Hi,
My family emigrated to the US when I was 8 but I want to move home to England!

Does anyone know if I should already have an NIN or do I have to apply for one?
Thanks
Belinda ???

You'll probably have to apply for one, as I think they're issued on your 16th birthday and if you weren't in the UK, you probably weren't issued one.

Yeah you would know if you have one, you would have received a little card in the mail with the number on it. Cardboard if you got one before 1984, plastic 1984 onwards.  (Guess which one I am!).

I left England when I was 14 but my grandparents still lived at the same address for a few years after that. I think they would have said if I got my NIN card! (and mine would have been paper  :P )
