Safety of travel...
« on: July 18, 2005, 07:57:30 PM »
I am planning a trip to England in November, and just wonder what anyone's thoughts are on the safety of air travel after the recent London bombings? It does make me nervous, with the tragedy that has happened there and the continued threats. But I also believe if you change your life and stop doing things you normally do, then the terrorists have won. I guess I believe when it's my time to leave this earth, I will go, regardless of what changes I make to my path. I don't know much about the way terror alerts work there, or if airport travel has been a problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks  :)

we flew in a few days later and it was fine, immigration line was HUGE and long but other than that it seems great.

hey, i take public transport every day.  I'm tired of worrying about the 'what if's.  I've come to peace with 'if it's my time, it's my time'.  I'd feel terrible for all i'd leave behind, but i can't go on worrying anymore.

You'll be fine.  :)

Don't think it's any riskier than getting in a car these days.  Should be fine.  Just give yourself plenty of time.

Seriously getting into a car is about a million times more dangerous than flying. The most dangerous place on earth is your own kitchen followed by your own garden. Last year 14 Americans were killed by their own ironing board.

Just a matter of perspective.

Sorry but that absolutely cracks me up! The fact that it's the ironing board no less and not the iron....LOL. Well thankfully I don't own or use either  ;D

Yep! I am working on it Ricki. Just hoping to find a good deal, doesn't look like I'll find as good of price as I did last year at this time, but found some pretty reasonable. I'll let you know when I work it out  :)

Thank you all for your replies, I agree I am sure things will be just fine, I just wondered if things with air travel had changed recently. I am a bit nervous at the idea, but flying in general gets me a little nervous, nothing big though  ;) Thank you!

Birmingham rocks! I'm going back to the US for a visit in September, and I couldn't find anything reasonably priced out of Heathrow or Gatwick. But Birmingham saved the day!

You think that's bad....apparently 13 people die each year in pajama related accidents.  :o

I hope so! Birmingham is so much closer to where I am going too which is nice! Have you flown in or out of there before? Just wondering what to expect. Gatwick was pretty easy for me since they only had the few terminals, and I just followed the people in front of me so not to get lost  ;D
