dental question
« on: July 19, 2005, 02:17:26 PM »
My daughter, 16, just had her braces removed and they made sure they left a space for a tooth that never came in. The dentist suggested an implant there but that is not covered under insurance here and we are returning to the UK in Nov. I could pay out of pocket here but it's very expensive for an implant. How would that be handled there? anybody know about tooth replacement? Thanks.

OOh Calle, I can't answer about the actual implant, but it is very difficult just to get registered with any dentist over here these days- especially as an NHS patient.

But as your daughter will still be 16 when she comes here, then I think she will still be entitled to free care, hopefully some "mums" will be along soon to clear that one up.

If you register as a private patient, you'll pay a pretty penny here too, but I am not sure how much/less expensive that is compared to US insurance co-pays.

PS) Are you the same Calle from VJ?

Thanks New-Dawn. With a few months to go perhaps I better just get it done here. Just wanted to make sure I wasnt going to fork out another thousand and find out I couldve got it done for free there.

I dont know what vj is so I must not be. ???

I noticed your Sig for the animal rescue thing. I donate to North shore...and aspca...and Natl humane society. Not that I have much but my few dollars here and there go to animal rescue funds. I would love to find a job somehow when we move pertaining to animals. its my dream.

I'd probably advise you to get it done there if you can.  While 16 year olds are eligable for NHS dental treatment if they're still in full time education, there's a possibility that you wouldn't get referred for it. .   Also the orthodontic waiting lists are long.  It's usually about 18 months before you even see an orthodontist.

VJ is Visajourney another forum, there is a Calle there I thought it might be you!  I think it's going to take quite a while for the dentist situation to get resolved over here and I am almost certain you wouldn't get it done for free here, unless there was some urgency involved with pain/infection etc.

I would imagine you'd find work with animals here, definitely in rescue organisations, unfortunately those positions are almost always poorly paid, utterly rewarding but badly paid. You also have to have quite a strong disposition, I am not good at rescuing animals from abuse, patching them up and then letting them go again, I would end up with a sanctuary of my own, but if I ever DO win the lottery, it's a goal for me, so I just do bits and pieces here and there when I can and make no mistake, a dollar here or a dollar there, is worth it.

Good Luck with your dream :)
