I've been listening to the audiobook of CoS, and came across the following passage.  When Harry meets Tom Riddle in the Chamber, Riddle says:

' "If I say it myself, Harry, I've always been able to charm the people I needed.  So Ginny poured out her soul to me, and her soul happened to be exactly what I wanted... I grew stronger and stronger on a diet of her deepest fears, her darkest secrets.  I grew powerful, far more powerful than little Miss Weasley.  Powerful enough to start feeding Miss Weasley a few of my secrets, to start pouring a little of my soul back into her..." '

She's a Horcrux!!!  :o

He would have had to kill someone to make her a Horcrux, the way he had to kill Tom Riddle to make the locket a horcrux.  I think Harry is Gryffindor's heir.  He likes making Horcruxes out of items attached to the founding fathers of all the houses.  And Harry's parents lived in Godric Gryffindor's Hollow when they were found by Voldemort.  I think Voldemort made Harry a horcrux shortly after killing Lilly Potter, just as he did w/his own father and the Syltherin locket.  We never hear much of James Potter's parentage - although we know all of Lilly's.  We only know that James is a pureblood.  Hmmm.

If Harry is in fact a horcrux, he will need to destroy himself in order to destroy Voldemort.

I read the 'children's' edition, b/c I feel she is far more subtle in these editions and I like to read between the lines.

To be honest,  the only difference between the children's edition and the adult edition is the dust jacket! It's a marketing ploy to get adults to read it without feeling odd whipping it out on the train, etc  ;)

Not that they need bother, right?!  :D  I just finished it after savouring it for a week and like many of you, I was disappointed about a few things. I really thought we were going to hear more about Lily and James...I'm intrigued about the Horcrux theories! Hmmm...

I forgot about the killing part.  I tend to jump to strange conclusions when reading (or listening to) the books.  Don't get me started on what I thought about Harry having Lily's eyes.  ::)

You're right - Harry is most likely a Horcrux and will have to die before Voldemort can be finally killed.  We all know Harry won't survive the final book anyway, so it's no big surprise.  However, Harry will have to die before Voldemort can be killed, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

As far as Lily's family, we really don't know all that much.  Granted, it's more than James's family, but there's not much to go on.

I've also been wondering about the Ravenclaw relic.  Has anyone been mentioned to be related to her family?  Kind of hard to figure where Harry will start out looking for that one.

How could Harry be a Horcrux?  Veldemort was trying to kill him, not put part of his soul into him.  When the curse rebounded he was left barely alive.  I doubt he had the strength to perform the magic he needed-he had barely enough to live.

As I type, I'm realizing that it makes no sense for Voldemort to make Harry a Horcrux.  For him to contain part of Voldemort's soul, he would want to keep Harry alive, which is the one thing Voldemort doesn't want.  Yeah, that's a theory that doesn't make a lot of sense.

However, furthering my Ginny theory, we know that the Weasleys date back for generations and could easily be related to either Godric Gryffindor or Rowena Ravenclaw.  Dumbledore said that he wasn't sure if there was a Gryffindor relic aside from the sword, so a blood relative may have to do.  I don't think it was an accident that Ginny ended up with the diary.  Rowling has also made the point that Ginny is the first Weasley girl in a very long time.  Considering her attentiveness to wee details like that, it could be important.  Or, it could be a huge red herring.

Call me sick, but I just love that she keeps us guessing.  :D

Plus, she's said before that all the clues are in the second book.

Oh, I hope it isn't Ginny...oh I hope it isn't Ginny.... :\\\'(  :\\\'(

I just finished reading the JKR interview on The Leaky Cauldron, which has given me my newest ridiculous theory:

Dumbledore switched places with his brother and is hiding out in the Hog's Head!  ;D

Did anyone else catch that Harry started feeling badly for Draco Malfoy?  It's my guess that just as Dumbledore gave Snape a chance to change, Harry will follow in the steps of his mentor and do the same for Draco, (even though I think Snape is rotten to the core. >:()
"Mind is the Master power that molds and makes,
And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills:
He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass,
Environment is but his looking glass."

K, I know I'm wayyy behind... but I finally finished last night.
And I cried.
I cried.

I guess it's been so long since OOP, I never guessed it would be Dumbledore... which really blew my mind.  What really broke my heart though, was the whole Song of the Phoenix description.... and the 'shooting off into the air' *sniff* :\\\'(

Now, if portraits of long-gone people can talk... ?  How does Dumbledore's death fit into that?

Dammit.  Now I want to go back and read them all from the beginning again.  And they're at home.  >:(
Christmastime I suppose.

Of course now I'm trolling all the sites, looking for more info.  Nothing like post-vacation exhaustion/depression/indecisiveness/looking for distractions ... etc. ::)

The theory I like best is that portraits simply capture the essence of a person.  I think that Harry may talk with Dumbledore's portrait, but I don't think she'll have him going to it for help.  Rowling has alluded to the fact that Dumbledore's family will be very important in the next book, and I think she's referring to his brother Aberforth (I tend to stay away from the "Dumbledore is the heir of Gryffindor" theory).  Since the subjects of the portraits can move back and forth between any other portrait that may exist, I don't think it's far-flung to assume that Aberforth has one either in his home or at the Hog's Head in Hogsmeade.  Or perhaps even somewhere else that may be useful like the Ministry of Magic.

Okay, I think it's time for me to stop typing now as I've completely outed myself as a freakish Harry Potter fan...  :-[

Makes sense to me.  I figured he can't go to Dumbledore for help, so curious to see just how 'animated' D's portraits will be as compared to others.

Hmm... that's one I haven't checked out yet.  I seem to spend all my time at either The Leaky Cauldron or the Lexicon these days.

JK mentioned on her own site the cool artwork on that one, which is mainly focused on Sirius.
Okay, I also noted that she commented on how particularly 'sexy' he's portrayed.
 :)

*sigh*
now that's kinda sad.

I'm a Lupin girl myself.  Can't tell you how happy I was to see a little romance for poor Remus. :)
