that's one thing I find interesting the wanting to bring electrical things over...I do understand if it holds sentimental value or if we were travelling to a place where the same goods are not found but is it really more of a benefit buying a converter and traveling with imported goods..is it cost effective ???

Sorry, I just re-read Catamount's list and he mentions four different LIGHT sockets. What's the story here? Do they have different size bulb receptacles? (Is that what you call them?) Why? Can't just buy standard light bulbs like here?

No, there are different types of light bulbs here.  Depends on the socket in the fixture or lamp which kind you buy.  Not all are just screw in type.. some are bayonet, some pronged, some screw in.  I try to take the old bulb with me if I need a new one because I've bought the wrong kind before.

The round abouts were the hardest thing for me to get use to when I visited the UK.  They really are not that hard after yu get use to them but I am not sure everyone driving the weeks I was there were anymore use to them then I was. LOL

Ya know that would not have been a question I would have thought to ask..VERY INTERESTING.
I think it is easy to take for granted that the way "WE" do things and the way we have things here in the states (or vise versa if from the UK) is just how things are done everywhere.  I can't believe how jazzed I am about learning such small things like light bulbs.  ;D

What are some other everyday common items that are different?

phone jacks are different.. wider plug goes into the wall but the plug going into the phone is the same size as in the US.  If you bring a standard phone, you can buy a cord in any electronic store.  Don't bother bringing a cordless phone.  Just buy one here.

Measuring cups and measuring spoons are different here. Bring yours along if you want to cook any US recipes.  Baking soda is single action, not double action like in the US so you'll need twice as much in your US recipes.

Will think of more later.. those are what I can think of now.

There are white eggs here as well. At least there used to be. Now you mention it I can't remember when I last saw white eggs.

eggs are brown not white

Eggs in RI were brown, too, so I was used to that! In fact, now I have the local RI egg board's theme song stuck in my head .... "Brown eggs are local eggs, and local eggs are fresh!"

We also used to put vinegar on our fish & chips in RI, so I guess I was prepared for the UK in more ways than one! :)
