holding back a year

I was just wondering if I decide that when we move to the UK my daughter would be better off repeating a school year to avoid having to catch up with the other students there ( in case she is behind),  Will the school allow me to do that? Who would be making the last decision ? Me or the school?

I had the same concerns as you when I moved here...my daughters were 6 & 9..they wouldn't allow me to hold either of them back..the 6yr couldn't read yet...but was made to catch up. Now I am only relating what I have experienced here on the Isle of Man.

I don't think they suffered unduly but they did have lots of homework!

Did the teachers help them catch up or they didn't care?

Oh yes the teachers did help spent a little more time with her in the course of the day..but the majority of it she had to do at home..they sent home little readers..kinda like dick and jane we had.........

I still rely on my husband to understand the school system here it just goes right over my head!
