How cute is this???
« on: July 25, 2005, 11:27:42 AM »
OK, I'm working on a job app (nothing new there  ::) ) and in reading the benefits page, came across this:

"- Four duvet days per year (part of your annual leave but can be taken on the day without prior agreement.)"

I thought I was the only one who used the term "duvet day"!!! God I want this job so desperately it's not even funny!!!!

That's awesome!!! I love them already!! What is the job, Anne? Is this the one you posted about in the Unexpected Pleasures thread? I meant to ask you about it, but kept forgetting.

Yup, it's the same one. It's a co-ordinator job for a mental health advocacy group - so essentially helping people to evaluate the NHS's mental health care. It's a new scheme. I think I'd really like it and I think I'm pretty well-qualified for it. The only very vague worry I have is that it would pigeon-hole me into an area where there's not a ton of jobs, and so it might not help my career in the future. BUT if this ended up being a place I could stay at for a while, it would certainly prime me for more senior management positions in mental health care....

Well, it's in London, for better or worse.... But I actually don't mind the commute into London - it'll give me an excuse to buy lots of books and an I-Pod!!  ;D It's a 35 hour work week, which would also help in that respect. And the salary is not huge, but ever-so-slightly higher than other stuff I've been applying for which, if my figures are correct, would cover the cost of the train....

Thank you - fingers crossed are well-and-truly appreciated for this one - it's been a while since I've found something to get excited about!!!!

Yup! Kind of like a mental health day ... but duvet day sounds so much nicer and doesn't have the MH stigma! ;)

Cool!

Anne, I wouldn't worry too much about being pigeonholed into the job role too much, there are soon to be major reviews and strides made towards the provision of mental health care and the access to it for many different user groups. There is a similar steering group that my boss is on for this kind of job and it sounds really cool (in as much as this kind of job can be deemed cool, you know what I mean!) but it's a vital, VITAL issue of service provision and one that really does need addressing at all levels.

Fingers crossed for you :)

I'm crossing fingers for you Anne!  I love that term BTW!  I needed a few of those at my last job, if only they had them!
