Visa for children
« on: July 25, 2005, 01:57:35 PM »
I'm not clear on whether I need to fill out a separate application for my 4 year old.  I just did my visa app online for myself but I'm confused as to whether my son is included in that app or not.  Anyone know what I'm supposed to do?  Also, he was born out of wedlock and I'm the only one on the birth certificate.  Will that be all I have to show for sole responsibility?  I tried to call the consulate but my cell phone won't let me dial out a 900#!!

Thanks!

I beleive that you have to fill out separate visa forms for all dependents.  But there are others on the forum that are more knowledgeable.

I filled out applications for my children in addition for myself. I am divorced and have joint custody so their dad had to write a letter giving them permission to live in another country. I am quite sure that since you are the only one on the birth certificate you have sole custody and can take your child out of the country. If you have any form of court order saying his biological father has some sort of custody than you would need his approval also.

If your name is the only one on the birth certificate, you should have no problems getting your child's passport and visa.  I didn't, and I did both after the law came into effect needing both parents' signatures.  I mean, if yours is the only name, what can they do?  You can always give them big doe eyes and say, "Well, I never was sure who the father was - all those football uniforms look alike..."  ;)  (That's a JOKE!)

LOL... that's funny!!  I had no problems getting his passport.  They didn't even ask about his dad.  I've filled out his application already and I'm posting the required documents that I have already on Wednesday.  If they need anything else I guess they'll call me!!
