Yippee...going to the Cotswolds!
« on: July 25, 2005, 04:10:43 PM »
Roy and I are taking off tomorrow morning to go do a little traveling.  We're starting off by driving to Oxford, wandering around, and then heading to Bourton on the Water & a lovely sounding B&B.  We'll spend the night there.  The next day we'll do a bit of touring around the area including Sudley Castle .  We'll stay one more night at the B&B. And then the next day we'll go to Bath for the day, eat dinner there and then head back to London.  I'm so excited about it!

Sounds awesome!!! I haven't been to the Cotswolds either, but I do love Bath! Where are you guys going to have dinner? May I recommend The Moon & Sixpence?

I love the Cotswolds.  I recommend the Woolpack aka the Laurie Lee Pub in Slad near Stroud.  Their Laurie Lee cider is very nice but they won't serve it to you if you're driving because it's so strong! Bourton on the Water is really pretty, actually so are all the villages around there. Have a great trip!

That's where we had dinner after we got married!!! It was sooooooo good!!!  ;D

I love love love the Cotswolds - so beautiful. We spent a day taking a walk that our hotel recommended - in and out of fields, up and over fences... it was so fun! And ended up at a tiny pub and had the best trout dish ever! Have a great trip!!!!

Isn't it great?!?! I've only been to Bath on two occasions, but I made sure my second visit there included a return trip to The Moon & Sixpence!

Is it dressy or expensive? (Moon & sixpence)  We're going on this trip on a budget and no desire to dress up...thanks for all the good wishes!

Here's their web site: http://www.moonandsixpence.co.uk/newwelcome.html

I think the menu is posted, so you can get an idea of prices.

It has more of a bistro vibe than a formal restaurant one, so the atmosphere is pretty casual, although it is really pretty. You can definitely dress casually and not feel out of place. I wouldn't wear jeans, but I'd say anything else goes. And, come to think of it, I'm sure I've seen people wearing jeans there as well.

So great to hear such positive things.  I am living in the Cotswolds and I guess I take it forgranted.  I often wish we were living in London.  It is beautiful here with wonderful hikes, great inns and quaint villages.  It is the typical British experience.

Hope you had a great time!
