Budapest, Vienna and Prague oh my....
« on: July 25, 2005, 08:43:50 PM »
My best friend and I are going to be traveling to the above mentioned cities for 2 weeks starting 23 October. (She will be in Germany the week before for a book fair, though not sure what city)  I have never been to any of these cities and was hoping for some advice.  What to do, what to see etc.  We may have tour guides in Budapest as my mother was born there and some of her relatives are still there.  However I'm not sure about that and want to make sure we see everything we can.

Any suggestions would be great.  How to get from city to city. Also any guide books you can recommend as well.

I agree, Prague is cool!  I was there about 7 years ago; so, of course I don't remember the names of any of the places to which we went.  Although, I do recall eating at an awesome, authentic Moroccan (go figure!) restaurant there.  They had real belly dancers and great, cheap food.  The Karluv Most (Charles Bridge) was a nice walk, with a nice view, and there were lots of artists set-up along the bridge.  We visited Prague Castle at night, and I thought it was so spooky, like something out of Dracula.  During the daytime, I'm sure it's great.  It's one of the world's oldest castles.
At the time I visited, the exchange rate between the Czech crown and the US dollar was well in our favour.  For about $2.50, you could walk out of a pub nice and tipsy.  And I bought a lot of nice, cheap crystal, too.

Yea i was there 3 years ago..the xchange was still good. We stayed in a local neighbourhood (Zizkoff not sure on spelling ) it was in zone 3 . We hooked up with a really cool/alternative couple that found us a very cheap deal to stay in a Uni dorm that a student was letting out , it was very clean , one bed apartment.

Did you go to the weird Skull and Bones church/museum it was a bus ride out of Prague..the name escapes me

I am originally from Austria..you should like Vienna too..its much cleaner and good cafe culture ..a lot cleaner than London thats for sure hehe.

The name of the church escapes me but it is in the town of Kutna Hora. It is fascinating.
