Thanks for the sites, we rescued two of our shelties, but have also bought one from a breeder.  One of our shelties died from lymphoma a few years ago  :\\\'(, and we got another one to replace him from the same breeder and he is our son's dog.  Then we have my husband's dog and then of course the famale sheltie is mine.  I guess I didn't post of all of that in my oringinal post. This is a great breed of dogs as long as you can get past the barking :).  They are very loyal dogs.  One of our rescued shelties has hyperthyroidism and his about 10 years old so I just don't think that he will be able to make the trip with us.  The other two might but we are out of time limit for when we will be coming to get all the stuff done before we come over and don't really have anyone that would be willing and able to keep them and help get them shipped to us but we are looking into it.  Just thought that if that doesn't work out that we could locate a sheltie breeder in the UK just in case.

I am so sorry to hear about your lost sheltie- it's absolute heartbreak isn't it. In fact, I have had dogs all of my life, I have shown them, trained them, rescued them and at times "liberated" them from very bad places, but I just lost mine 16 mths ago and I wont ever have another dog- I cannot do it again, this was my little heart & soul dog. Please don't think I was judging you, I really wasn't, I know people have their own reasons and sometimes for health issues or for people with little children it can be unwise to rescue, I understand - I hope I didn't make you feel like you had to justify, I was trying to cover all bases, in a perfect world, we would all rescue I am sure, but sometimes it's not possible or wise.

Personally speaking- I applaud your decision not to put a 10 yr old hypothyroid dog through the trauma of the move,as hard as these decisions are, I admire putting the animal first. I am so sorry though, because I imagine the anguish that accompanies such decisions.

ND,

I didn't that you were judging me, I just thought that I maybe if I explained all of that in my first post then maybe people would better understand.  It is definately hard to lose a pet.  The one we lost from cancer a few years back was only 7 years old.  We got him when we first got married then had our son 5 years later and Aladdin really couldn't handle being second anymore.  I still think about him often and he will make the trip with us, or at least his ashes will.  I don't really want to leave our shelties behind but houses/flats are much smaller in UK and with three of them and one having to be treated for hypertyroidism, just doesn't make since to risk his health.  I want to bring over my son's sheltie (Casey) and my sheltie (shelby) but it will take some planning on our part.  I think that I have families willing to take them and they are friends of ours so I know that they will be taken care of and I won't have to relinquish them to a rescue facility.

But if for some reason we can't get them over to us after we move then we will want to adopt one once we get over there and settled.

I understand totally.  Just thought I would mention that for me to take my dogs ashes to the U.S, I have to  be in possession of the certificate of cremation and it's likely you'll need something similar , I am sure you have already thought about that, but just in case.

It's the only "possession" I really care about taking ~ everything else, not important.....

I brought my dog's ashes with me but don't have any such certificate.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…
