Thanks for the sites, we rescued two of our shelties, but have also bought one from a breeder. One of our shelties died from lymphoma a few years ago :\\\'(, and we got another one to replace him from the same breeder and he is our son's dog. Then we have my husband's dog and then of course the famale sheltie is mine. I guess I didn't post of all of that in my oringinal post. This is a great breed of dogs as long as you can get past the barking . They are very loyal dogs. One of our rescued shelties has hyperthyroidism and his about 10 years old so I just don't think that he will be able to make the trip with us. The other two might but we are out of time limit for when we will be coming to get all the stuff done before we come over and don't really have anyone that would be willing and able to keep them and help get them shipped to us but we are looking into it. Just thought that if that doesn't work out that we could locate a sheltie breeder in the UK just in case.
I am so sorry to hear about your lost sheltie- it's absolute heartbreak isn't it. In fact, I have had dogs all of my life, I have shown them, trained them, rescued them and at times "liberated" them from very bad places, but I just lost mine 16 mths ago and I wont ever have another dog- I cannot do it again, this was my little heart & soul dog. Please don't think I was judging you, I really wasn't, I know people have their own reasons and sometimes for health issues or for people with little children it can be unwise to rescue, I understand - I hope I didn't make you feel like you had to justify, I was trying to cover all bases, in a perfect world, we would all rescue I am sure, but sometimes it's not possible or wise.
Personally speaking- I applaud your decision not to put a 10 yr old hypothyroid dog through the trauma of the move,as hard as these decisions are, I admire putting the animal first. I am so sorry though, because I imagine the anguish that accompanies such decisions.
