Yes, you do!! It doesn't save me any time at all 'cause I spend so much time fiddling around with quantities, etc. until I get to what I want to spend! LOL.

That's ok with me...I'm sure that even with all the fiddling around I'll still be saving time just because I won't have the twins with me! I usually go while they're in school 'cause they are sloooowww and usually fooling around.

Lordie, I took the boys to Sains yesterday for the first and the LAST time! I could have killed them.

Do you plot menus, Geally? I swear, mine are so fussy, that I am sadly unable to just serve up whatever i'd like....

Mind, Geally, the first time you try shopping online it does seem to take forever, but don't get discouraged.  I'm not sure what happens with other stores, but with Sainsburys, they save your previous shops so you can select from a list of items you've previously bought.  I'm a creature of habit and probably 75% of my shopping is the same each week, so those 'previous' lists make shopping quite quick for me.

OK, I've just had a look at the Sainsbury's site and really want to try this BUT I'm having serious issues. I'm using a mac (Firefox) and the site is a mess. I keep getting java errors, the frames aren't displaying properly, etc. Any ideas? Cait?  ;D I seem to recall having a similar problem with Tesco a few years ago which put me off trying this...

I'll look at the Sainsburys site later on tonight on the Mac and see what I can see.  I'm having no problem using Firefox on PC with Sainsburys.

My DH likes to grocery shop!! He's official trolley pusher and I march about with the list! We're both pretty fussy but he has been known to spend ages chosing 'the perfect' tea or marmalade.  ::)

Anne, shouldn't your DH be a whiz at the store? He works for one after all!

I think that may be why he hates it so!!! "I spend all night working in a grocery store, the last thing I want to do when I get home is go back!!!"

DH decided  that we need  to  split the list  so he can get stuff  while I'm taking forever  picking out fruits and  veggies..  (foreign to him)
also he has certain brands  and  foods he HAS  to get so I leave that to him.. made that mistake once.. ::)

Thanks Cait, if you want to PM me instead, that's cool. Tried Tesco's site and no problems there now but I prefer Saindsburys.

That said, is it not possible to order fresh fish or things from the counters? We try to buy one fresh fish every week and prefer the deli ham to the packed stuff. Isn't it cheaper to buy it that way? Guess I ought to check and see...

Ah well, might as well post it here so that others using the Mac and Sainsburys will know.

No joy with Firefox.  The items hide under the left hand menu (OS X 10.2).  Works fine on IE 5.2, but will not work on OS 9 IE 5.

Sorry that the news isn't better.

Good info, thanks, y'all. I'm trying to flesh out a monthly budget but am not sure about the food/grocery bit. It will be just me and the two cats (in London) but I don't really cook very often. I tend to eat my main meal of the day at lunchtime (restaurants or take out while at work) then just eat a sandwich or scrambled eggs at night. I might cook a big pot of meatless spaghetti or a large casserole on the weekends, if I have nothing else planned.

How much should I allow for weekly food/grocery budget which will include meals out? Any ideas?

Eating out here will put your costs up quite a bit.  You can probably allow around £30 a week for your groceries but eating lunch out every day is going to set you back about £10 a day unless get lucky and find a really cheap place you like.

Yeah - if you're going to be eating at a restaurant for lunch, figure about £40 - 50 per week for that.  If you're just going to get a sandwich/salad/jacket potato/soup from a cafe or a bakery, figure about £3-4 per day.
