Spousal visa checklist -feedback please!!!
« on: July 26, 2005, 08:04:44 PM »
Wow, the time has nearly arrived for me to leave this God-forsaken place (Mississippi) and join my darling husband in Manchester.

FYI:  We have been married since November 8, 2003.  We have been apart since May 10, 2005 and haven't seen each other since then.  He has secured a flat & a job.

Could someone who has gone through this please check this checklist that I made up and give me some feedback on whether I need more or less proof for my settlement visa.

I would greatly appreciate it!!

Sounds good.  To complete the financial picture, I added in the cover letter that we have no debts other than the mortgage.  I didn't include any credit card statements, just gave my word.

I had a fairly new passport, so I also sent the previous one in case the officials wanted to see it.

When I sent in my fiance visa a couple months ago I was getting really confused with all the stuff that they wanted to see as well.  So when I sent in all my material I added a cover letter outlining everything that was included; corresponding to what they asked for on the application and online so there was no doubt that I had everything, and I papercliped sections together.  It helped me stay organized.  Everything looks okay though!  Good luck!

I bought too much stuff, they didn't even ask for a majority of what I had, she just wanted the essentials, my passport, his birth certificate, letter from him, letter from his mum,her lease, his bank statements & letter of employment and my resume.  I think a lot of the stuff that they say they require are mainly for third world countries where mail order brides and arranged marriages come into effect. They really dont require proof of contact with an American fiancee unless you are applying for a UP visa or if they have reason to doubt u met. But its better to come with too much stuff then not enough :P

Your check list sounds fine though ;D

Also, I will be a student.  Is this going to affect my application?  anyone?

It shouldn't. I got my FLR while on a student visa and they didn't say anything about me being a student. I think I might have brought some proof of my student loans to contribute toward our household income, but as I recall they didn't look at that. I'm another one who brought far more than I needed!!

Hooray!  I will send my student loan info, just in case.  I learned from US immigration that too much is far better than too little!!

but your marriage license and your marriage certificate are two different things, the license is what you get TO get married and the certificate is what you get AFTER you get married. they would only want to see the license to prove that you were never married before or are divorced.

In Mississippi, its called a Marriage License.  The other is an application.  but we are behind the rest of the universe by a good 60 years....
