Mothercare Alternative
« on: July 28, 2005, 10:18:49 AM »
Hi,
We are coming back to England this weekend and one of the first stops is stocking up on small items for our daughter Sidney.
I think Mothercare is outrageously expensive, I see the same quality stuff in Target or Walmart for 1/3 the price.  I know I'm in England, but Damn!
Anyways, here are some things I need to get, please let me know if MC is the only place to get these...  Potty training chair, Toddler bed, high chair, room decorations, toy chest, more childrens cultery, plates, sippy cups etc.  We are thinking of Ikea for the toddler bed, but need ideas for the other stuff.
THANKS!
Sandra

You can get most of that stuff at Ikea.  Also, try boots or Woolworths or Toys-r-us.

Also check your local high street for baby shops and don't forget your local grocery store. Plus the Pound Stretcher and Primark also have good deals.

Find your nearest big Asda (www.asda.com) - also find out if your local NCT group has a second hand sale - we got tons of nearly new stuff very cheap through the NCT - your local group may advertise in the local library or else try the national web site.

Thanks Much,
I have never been to ASDA but heard of it, is it like Target?  I doubt I can get a potty chair in IKEA, but I believe I have seen highchairs there.
 :)

No, our IKEA has them. But they are the very small ones. Too small for my baby's big, American tush! lol

ASDA is part of Walmart actually. I tend not so shop there because its always jam packed and everyone there has B.O.!  ::)

argos is pretty good we got our car seat, bouncer, and baby carrier there and all 3 of em were a total of £56 all together. The pram we got is mothercare brand, but we bought it practically brand new at a bootsale for dirt cheap.
. We are getting her moses basket & a changing bag at babys r us though because I dont like the styles argos has.
Mothercare is way expensive though. Its nice to buy some small things from em but if you are looking for buy big items then you will be paying a lot :P

Also, Boots has a baby section -- which has expanded recently -- which is also worth using.

B-wise for clothings on the cheap

Littlewoods , Argos

Woolworths I tend to shop for stuff there a lot.
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.
