Looking for a share in Marylebone
« on: July 28, 2005, 10:57:41 PM »
Hi everyone-

Hi-

I am 27 from New York (originally from Philadelphia) and just moved to London for two years, currently staying in temporary housing until I can find a place.

Ideally I would like to find a flatshare in the Marylebone / Baker Street area.   Agents and relocation brokers have been unhelpful.   So far I saw one place on gumtree and am going to call up some of the places in Loot.  Do any of you have any advice on how to find a share in that area?

Thanks in Advance

Sounds like you're doing the right thing - Loot.com, gumtree and craigslist in London are the best ways to find a good flatshare.  You could also ask at work (if that's what you are doing over here in London).  Best of luck!

Thanks for the responses.  I start work Monday so if I don't find something by then I will definitely ask around there.

I would also consider living in other areas - it'll open up the possibilities (though Marylebone is a great part of the city).

9 year Marylebone resident here  ;D

Marylebone Society, Saint Marylebone Society, volunteer at the http://www.marylebone-project.com, and Marylebone "bit of this and bit of that", 2 years on the Marylebone High Street Ward committee too...

http://londonelegance.com/mhs/

It's a matter of keeping one's eyes open.  There is at least estate agent on Devonshire street who's in the Hall of Righteous People, for sure.  Another agent on Bulstrode Street, but agents are more interested in the big ticket stuff...

So how much are you wanting to pay, smoker?  m/f?  all that stuff...

27 Year old male professional, non-smoker, willing to pay up to 200 a week, (if it is a really nice place, I can swing 225 a week but would prefer to stay at the 200 level).   I would also like a room that is of decent size (fits a double bed, desk and some closet space).  I would prefer to have flatmates in their late 20s or early 30s, whose primary language is English, but that is all flexible too.

I would want to be within a 10 minute walk of Baker Street as my office is right near Farringdon.

Am I forgetting any other info?

As soon as possible.   I am staying in basically a hotel now, company only pays for one more week of hotel.  After that it comes out of my pocket.

One again, thanks to everyone for the words of support.  I am still looking but hopeful.  It seems that the places on gumtree are generally nicer than the ones on Loot.

This forum has small ads for accomms in the major cities, might be worth a look or you could join and place one of your own, have you considered putting your own in the paper?

Any recommendations for a gym?  I think there is an LA Fitness real close by.
