The spirituality journey is complicated. I was raised a Baptist, then when I was 13 my mom moved us to the Methodist Church. When I went to university, I decided I didn't believe in God anymore and did a lot of reading about Wicca, played with a tarot deck and did lots of dabbling (in a superficial way) in mysticism. Then when I was about 30, my mom (who lived in another state) started going to a charismatic church. I started reading the Bible again and went to a charismatic church myself for a time. I read all sorts of books by Benny Hinn and the like. Decided that all that stuff about healings and naming it and claiming it were too pat for me, got rid of those books. Started going to a Baptist church to try to salvage my failing marriage, or at least my sagging spirit. Buried myself in a cell church I found there. When I got divorced, that church split!
A fallow couple of years ensued. Lately, I've been reading a lot about Western Buddhism. It really resonates with me. It is not dogmatic. It does not seek to answer all the questions. (Or any questions). I am moving toward Buddhism. That's where I am at the moment.
Books have changed my life. What books can you identify as real cornerstones in your life? Books that have actually precipitated a change in your life. Please tell us about them.
