applying in person, will i get visa in same day??
« on: July 31, 2005, 10:48:02 PM »
im in the process of making arrangements for our trip to the LA office to get my spouse visa in Sept.  What im wondering is, is it pretty safe for me to assume that if i bring all the correct information and ours is a pretty simple case, it will be approved and i will get my visa that same day?  meaning we could fly back home (to AZ) that night? Im trying to figure out if we should stay in LA for another day after the appointment.  i thought so at first just to play it safe but it seems silly.  like even if something did go wrong, how would i be able to fix it in one day so far from our homes?

did you get your visa on the same day?

Most people who have gone to the Consulate in person have received their visa the same day.  If all is in order you shouldn't have a problem.  Going in person was not an option for me, so I had to do this via post.  But even with doing it that way (and, my case wasn't as simple as your's sounds), I received my visa via fed ex in only three days. :)

I went in person to Chicago for mine.  I got there early, as they recommended, about an hour before they opened.  I was the first person in, and had a backpack with me, full of papers and photos that they didn't even need.  Normally, you'd drop off your stuff in the a.m., then come back at about 4 pm to pick it up, with (hopefully) your new visa.  She processed mine right away, in about 10 minutes.  I was walking out of the building, with visa in hand 10 minutes BEFORE they oficially opened!!!   :o

;D  So you can get lucky.

You could probably come home later that same day.  You'll know by the end of the business day if you got the visa or not.  As long as you're not a terrorist or criminal, they'll probably let you in.  I wouldn't worry...   ;)

I applied in person in Chicago and did not get mine the same day because I had been denied entry to the UK once. So, if by chance you ever have, be aware that you're probably going to need some extra time.
