My three boys' names:

Michael John, 18 (his paternal grandfather's first and middle names reversed)

Christopher Kenneth, 17 (Christopher we both liked, Kenneth his dad's first name)

Nicholas Michael, 3  (middle name the same as my eldest b/c he was one day off being born on Michael's birthday)

I like good, solid names, however - after reading one of Anne Rice's novels I was hooked on naming a little girl, if I'd had one, Emmaleth. I just thought it was a beautiful name. I've never heard it anywhere but in the book . . . . although I'm sure there are many, many more girls out there named Emmaleth after the novel was published.

My mom's thing was for she, my sister and I to all have middle names which start with "l". She's Lee, I'm Lynn, and my sister is Lisa.
I know I'm late - where's the booze?

My mom was so disapointed when I told her our preliminary choice for a girl's name because it's not an "L" name.  She's Lin and I'm Liza, she just assumed I would want to continue the line of "L's".

I think the spelling of traditional names can get out of hand such as some of the ones previously posted... but names that were once 'weird' spellings are now commonplace - or relatively so. My name is Caryn Ami and when my mother chose that, she did get a bit of flack for it. Oddly though, I don't think of my name as the same as Karin/Karen/Amy though clearly it is!

Yeah, Caryn, but your name actually makes sense!  :)  I'm talking about those made up or intentionally misspelled names that look like somebody drew a random collection of letters out of a bag -- I had a really hard time with Lideah.  At first I thought it had to be pronounced like "Liddie".  Then I thought it must be "idea" with an L in front = l'idea.  Then I thought it could be li-day-yuh.  When the girl came in, I asked for "Li-day-yuh" and she rolled her eyes and said, "It's LYDIA", like I was some sort of moron (when, in fact, the true morons were her parents for not knowing how to spell what would normally be a perfectly lovely name!).   ;)

Nina is a pretty name but I can't see giving a kid the middle name of "actually". But hey, to each their own! ;D

I don't know... it sort of rolls off the tongue nicely.

Boy 2- Jackson Steven James, he is almost 2.  Jackson was the first name of an great-great uncle. Steven was chosen for a wonderful man the died suddenly at 50 and James after my two grandfathers.

Both names are surnames, though both have been used for first names in my family decades ago.

Maddierose,

My 2 1/2 year old son is also named Jackson.  Of course, I had no idea how popular the name had become when I picked it.  Since "Jack" is a derivative of "John" and since I didn't want my son to be "John William III,"  I figured "Jackson" ("son of Jack/John") would satisfy both requirements of naming after my dh AND giving him his own name. :)  He got my own middle name--"Lee."

I'm not a huge fan of surnames as first names, but obviously I do like a few.  I hope my modesty won't suffer too much when I say it's apparent you had good taste when it comes to naming your children, Maddie.  ;D

Here's my Jackson.  This was taken at Easter.

I saw a woman on Babycenter who had named her son "Aryan."

OMG, Saf, I saw that thread! LOL, she was a friggin' dingbat.  I almost wrote to her and suggested she name him "Aryan Heil" and just tell people it's pronounced, "Aaron Howell."  Something told me my effort would be wasted though.   ::)  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

Anyway, if you don't mind sharing, what boards do you frequent there?  I'm a regular on the "Childbirth Choices" board (SN is Persis144).

I really tried to pick out a less common yet not weird name.  Our son is Sean Michael.  I thought I was so unique, and within a week of his birth, I knew 5 Sean Michaels.  ;D

For a girl we're going to use Holly Kristine.  I always loved the name Evelyn and wanted to use the nickname Evey.  But, last year DH went and adopted an older dog.  Her name was Eve.  He thinks we can still use the name Evelyn, but how do you convince a child that she wasn't named after the dog??????

OK what about Nina most certainly ;D ...."actually" sounds too presumptuous

My cousin's dog was named Brandy - and her aunt named her daughter Brandy as well... ::)

A few weeks after I was born, the lady across the street got a new dachshund and named her Vicki (my name).  She didn't know that's what my parents had named me, apologized and offered to change the dog's name.  My parents, being the polite folks they are, told her they didn't mind.  Honestly, it never bothered me at all.  Plus, it was entertaining to see the looks on my friends faces when the grandmotherly lady across the street would come out in the evening and yell "VICKI!!! DINNER!!!" at the top of her lungs.  ;D

I think Jackson is a very strong name and  one I am still very happy with.  I must say Rebekah,  you have excellent taste too.
