Flip flops/ Sandals?
« on: August 04, 2005, 09:36:28 PM »
Otherwise known as "thongs" sometimes  :o.  Do people wear these very much over in the UK?  My DF hated them until I finally got him to buy a cheap pair at Old Navy and he grew to love them.

I can see that it would not be a very good environment to wear flip flops if it rains all the time.  I'm just asking because I know that over here in the US everyone seems to wear them!  Most of my friends will pull them out as soon as it hits 50F over here.

Do Brits wear flip flops/ sandals in general as much as Americans?  What does everyone think?

In general Americans tend to wear them more than Brits, but they are worn here.  Though, those I see, could be Americans on holiday.   ;D

Everyone owns a pair, but most people only wear them when they go away to someplace hot and sunny for their holidays.  I am eternally grateful for this, as i HATE seeing other people's feet!  ;D

It's too cold to wear flip flops up here much.  I have some to use around the house and packed them in my hospital bag when I went to have a baby so I could use them as shower shoes.

That's about it.

I see people all over my town wearing them when it's hot out.  I wear them all the time in the summer.

Noooo!!!  Don't say that!!!  I LOVE my flip flops!!!
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

You can wear them around the house.  It's about 55 degrees here right now and a bit . . .'blowy'.

I've worn my Roxy flip flops all summer to the point the soles are worn down. You hardly see anyone else wearing them, which is probably wise of them, living in this climate -- but that won't stop me! They look great with my cropped jeans. The only problem is, you really can't predict when it's going to rain next, and when it rains, it gets cold, and my feet are suddenly freezing! For now, it's been pretty cold lately (despite the fact it's August  :\\\'() so I'm back to just long jeans and boots again.

One thing you really DON'T see people wearing is shorts. You see alot of miniskirts, but shorts are extremely rare. So if you're moving over, leave the shorts at home! It's usually too cool for them anyway.
Plans on hold 'cuz Brexit

I have a few pair but I don't wear them often.  It's too cold... and rainy.. and all the other things people already said.  ;)
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Sounds like heaven to me!  I'm totally NOT a fan of shorts.  Too much skin down there for me to be showing off (for everyday ware at least).  Now holidays I make an exception  :)

The girls (who are mostly in their twenties) all wore them at work as soon as it got warm.

I wear them all the time around London and I'm not alone in wearing flipflops or sandal equivalents.  And no, it's not too cold to wear them all summer...Even if it's 'cool' out I wear them with jeans.

I never wore them in the US, but they're part of my summer uniform here. It's all I wear on my feet during the summer. As onetiger said, it's never too cold for them (unless you have some weird circulation problem!), even if you do have to pair them with jeans once in a while. I have dressy flip-flops, beach flip-flops, etc. A whole range! Love 'em!

I wear flip flops all the time in summer, hate my feet feeling constricted or hot, I even used to wear them to work.  I have some "ordinary" ones (plain, rubber, flat) and some very fancy (high wedge heel, pink metallic thong bit).  Flip flops for all occasions. They are great so cheap so you can have a pair to match all your outfits!
