I used to wear them all the time in Denver.  But it's usually at least 5 degrees Celsius cooler here than London, rains more, is more often windy.

I think I wore them once this year.  Ditto open toed sandals.

When I came here I had loads of flip flops, Tevas, Birks, Choco sandals.  I got rid of them all when my feet went up a half size after having a baby.  Just not a lot of use for them here . . .

Just came across this newspaper article on flip flops.

http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-13401709,00.html

Wearing trendy flip flops could kill you, according to new research.

The fashionable footwear - ideal for the beach in hot weather - are putting the lives of road users at risk.

Three in every four motorists have admitted they find it hard to drive in flip flops and road safety experts have warned that wearing the sandals in the car could be a lethal decision.

Researchers claim a flip flop, worn by millions, can easily get stuck under the pedals and cause a fatal accident, The Sun says.

This happened to me back in the States... I foolishly was too lazy to take my flip flops off and put on regular shoes to drive, and one of them got stuck under the brake. Luckily I got it out, but it freaked me out enough not to wear them again while driving.

I have Emily the Strange flip-flops but I haven't even worn them around the house.  I'm scared of ruining them!

This is the first summer I've ever bought sandals with the toe thong, though.  Some are more comfortable than others... :P

I grew up wearing sandals when it was warm enough, and still like them now.   I've been told that these days some people regard them as "uncool," but I've never let anything like that worry me!   ;)

Even when it starts to turn cooler I'll just add a pair of socks but still wear sandals.  I don't like being constricted with big heavy shoes, lots of clothes, etc.    During the warmer months, I often just run around the house with no shoes or socks at all.

I've never really gone for flip-flops, but I wouldn't try to drive with them on.   You could just kick them off altogether and drive barefoot.

I wear them constantly during the summer. Even if it's cloudy, it's certainly been warm enough to still wear them. And I'm with Liz - I have several pair so I can coordinate them with my outfits.  ;D

There was recently a HUGE uproar over - I think it was - the Women's Lacross team, perhaps Olympic I'm not sure.  They visited the White House and wore FLIP FLOPS!!!!!!  Just about everyone under 35 years old freaked out and said what the heck where they thinking - doesn't anyone know how to dress appropriately anymore!!

Flip flops to the White House!!!   ::)  Yep - I'm one of those who was totally embarassed for them because the obviously didn't have the sense to be embarassed for themselves.

Well, at least they were comfortable  ;D.  I hope they'd all had pedicures beforehand.  Of course, their feet would have looked much better in Manolo heels.  And toned legs shown off in a nice dress.  But then they probably would have skipped the tights . . .

Oh - don't get me started on appropriate clothing...I used to be a court reporter and the things people wore to court in front of a judge... :o   ::)

Of course, I remember the days when one wore their "Sunday finest" to fly on an airplane.  Boy, are THOSE days gone... :-\\\\

Or even to the hospital to visit someone!  We dressed like we were going to church - it's all out of respect for the person.  So sad that society (some of it anyway) has lost that level of respect.

My mom used to dress me up to go on a plane when I was little. I remember flying to LA to visit her sisters and wearing fancy little dresses with white tights and patent leather mary janes. And one of her sisters used to live in San Francisco when it was compulsory to never go out without white gloves, hat, etc. That was a big SF thing - I inherited a load of little wrist-length gloves from my dad's aunt in SF.... There are a locally famous pair of twins in SF who still dress that way. http://www.coastnews.com/restaurant-guide/downtown-financial.htm - scroll down to the bottom for a (less than great) picture of them to give you an idea.....

I have all my Nana's wrist-length gloves.  Wish they'd come back in style - they are so cool!

I went through a serious vintage phase when I wore them all the time with vintage dresses and coats. It worked for me in SF, but I'm not sure I'd get away with it anywhere else. I can't fit into the dresses anymore - people were TINY back then and I only fit them when I was in really good shape. I've got a couple of gorgeous suits that I WILL fit back into one of these days 'cause they're classics that won't go out of style and are better quality than I could ever afford now!!!

I wore a beautiful pair of vintage three button gloves (they come just a bit higher than your wrist) for Easter with an ivory jacket and black skirt.  The gloves are the softest black kid leather I've ever seen - I felt so elegant!!  hehehe

I was at Simon's Church in Sheffield and was surprised there weren't many women dressed up for Easter Vigil Mass.
