like everyone said there are good and bad expats everywhere...just think would BB be as interesting to everyone if it was a house of conscientious , well mannered human beings ???
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

I think you find differences in dress styles anywhere you go -- whether it's in the US or the UK, it's going to depend on the region of the country you're in, whether it's an urban or rural setting, etc.

Oh god, absolutely true way up here in geordieland! I chuckle every time I read comments about how the fashion here in the UK is much better than in the US...I don't think any of those posters have been to Newcastle on a Saturday night in the middle of the winter and seen the throngs of drunk, young women huddling together in their spike-heeled sandals, spaghetti-strap cropped tops and too-tight-hip-hugging jeans with their year-round tanned beer guts hanging out. And this is not an isolated observation!!!

Give me fleece and Birks anyday!

Swedish girls dress that way as well year round. Even when it's -15C below they will have on clothes made for July topped off by a light weight jacket. Personally I have nothing against heels or spaghetti straps (as I too have worn them at times) but I always have a down jacket on and leggings under my jeans. I also don't have a year round George Hamilton tan or a beer gut.   :P
I'm an American (with dual citizenship) living in Stockholm, Sweden for almost 6 years.

My Swede and I are looking towards a future move to the UK.

. there are quite a few who frequent this board and other boards who came here only for love. And doing that is a completely different kettle of fish than deliberately planning a move to another country for some other reason (work, school, adventure). It's not necessarily an excuse, but I think it's safe to say that the rose tinted glasses of love can blind you to all the other hurdles involved in an international move.

I couldn't agree more!  I am here b/c I love Scotland.

It helped that I'd also moved abroad twice before, both times to a nation with a different language.

So moving to the UK seemed far easier to me b/c there was no language barrier.  Having one made it much harder - for me at least - to fit in until I got a grip on the language.  The first time was in the mid-80s and there was no internet or cheap phone calls, only snail mail.  It was quite isolating for the first few months.

Of course, if you're going out dancing for the night or something, who doesn't want something slinky/spaghetti strapped etc...but I was just poking fun at the fact that they don't wear jackets at all...sometimes the same outfit with sandals and a mini and the wind is whipping around, or snowflakes! (and many of the women waaaay up here dress like this always, even to the local newsagents to pick up some beer. (oops I meant milk!  ;D)

I even bought a cute Christmas card of two women standing on the sidewalk waiting to cross or something, one dressed in typical geordie winter party gear (with crown and fairy wand too!) and the other in boots and long down jacket and the geordie is looking over and saying something like "you're not froom aroond here, are you?" Wish I could remember all the cute geordie spelling...

I'd love to see that card! Geally, the Geordies are notorious for not wearing warmer clothing when it's bitter cold. It's a well-known stereotype that's clearly true in certain parts of the city. I've seen it in other towns and cities but the Geordies are known for it even on the bitterest nights!

Wah-hey!

BTW, it was probably something like 'yer nawt froom aroond heeya, er ya, pet?' !!  ;)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

It's because, if you're out on the pish, you're likely to leave your jacket/scarf, etc in a pub or taxi, so it's easier not to even bother bringing it out with you.
At least, that's my excuse for dressing like that for nights out while living in Glasgow for 10 years!  ;)

nah...it's just cramped my style...here I am looking fine in my black halter neck dress and a big heavy coat would just not work.... ;D

now it's just about making the right entrance...wrap up in a fine coat and reveal the merchandise at the right moment... ;D

Nowadays, she just sticks to her local, where they'll at least hold her coat for her till she stumbles in the following morning for hair of the dog  ;D.
