I would think a card is better though, because they can't delete it. And it shows that you put more time and effort into it.

As for losing a job because you didn't send a thank you note: That seems a bit harsh, but sending or not-sending a thank you note provides an example of how you would actually behave in a business environment, You can have the highest level of skills and education, but if you appear to be impolite to clients or coworkers, you are not going to be able to do a good job.

You're definitely right on that one, a physical card shows more effort, I think.  However I think the upside to an email is that it isinstantaneous.  Sometimes if there are a lot of candidates, and you send and email the next day or even the same day, it could have more impact.  I guess it just depends on the recruiter and there's no way to tell?!  :P   :-\\\\

If I were an employer though, I think I would choose to get a card.

Both are very good points. Normally, I would send a card of very high quality card stock, first class immediately, but in this day and (electronic) age depending on the nature of the organisation I like the idea of an e-mail also.

It's good to have the options and I am very grateful for the advice.

A card?  I've never heard of sending a card.  A letter or an e-mail, yes.
Is this common?  I always do a letter or e-mail.

As for the question as to whether or not to send an e-mail vs. a typed letter, I usually go by the following.  If at the end of the interview, the interviewer gives me his/her e-mail and says to send any additional questions that I might have via e-mail,  then I send a Thank You e-mail.  If he/she didn't give me an e-mail then I send a letter.
