Settlement Visa Approved!!!!!
« on: August 08, 2005, 11:49:29 PM »
Hello everyone......
Just got an email from facilitator & I will have it (my settlement visa) in my hands tomorrow 1030 am! Apparently the NY consulate was trying to ring me but couldnt......having bad weather in SC and phones were weird. They had a few questions but ended up calling my husband in London and asked him to fax something tomorrow......He agreed, but they went ahead and approved it anyway. Still gonna fax it.......Been one of the weirdest days of my life! I swear one more day and I would have ended up in the psychiatric unit at the hospital LOL.......Anyway wanted to say THANK you ALL for your help.......Gonna go and rebook my tickets.......Hopefully be there Thursday Night   ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Congrats.. told ya you had nothing to worry about.  ;)
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Fabulous news!
Married to Graham, we run our own open-source computer training company in beautiful Wiltshire out of our 1814 Georgian Regency home (a former lodging house and once featured in Antiques Roadshow)

LOL, great question. And I feel duty-bound to provide a link without offering speculation. But I'm about to retire to bed and am still trying to get over some jetlag, so I'm not offering anything quite specific. Take a look around this FAQ:
HM Revenue & Customs Travel FAQs
If your question's not answered there, look around the site in other areas.

I would venture to say that Milk Duds would not be restricted if for your own use, but you'd have to pay VAT on anything in excess of...sorry, forgot. Cigarettes, likewise. BUT, that's the rules for people living in the UK and bring from another EU nation, which is probably not what you're asking.

I *think* for coming to the UK from a non-EU country, you are limited to 2 cartons of cigarettes, but I don't think the Milk Duds are restricted, but you may have to declare them if they go over a certain monetary amount.

Thank you,
I will have a poke around on that site. To be honest I am glad to hear that there may be a limit, especially on the Milk Duds .......I am only allowed 70lbs. per bag x 2 bags! :-\\\\  One full of Milk Duds and Cigarettes and the other 1 my clothes LOL.......Nah, doesent work! Unless of course my beloved is willing to let me do some MAJOR 'retail therapy'..........Which I know there isnt a snowballs chance in H*** of that happening  :-[ I guess it depends on how bad he really wants those Milk Duds huh? <wink wink>  ;D

p.s. Read the comment at the bottom of your posting.....Your house sounds lovely! I have also been looking online ( have had 1 month of sleepless nights!) and have come across a carriage house 1700's, for sale in the UK.....VERY good price.....but needs loads of work (I am a DIY addict) Ummm looks like some serious arm twisting when I get there & promises of NEVER shopping again! And throw in all the Milk Duds he can handle! ;D

when I came here I was 'made' to bring a big bag of jolly ranchers, hershey kisses, hershey assorted choccy bars, twinkies and corn bread. I had no problem going through customs. The only food you are restricted on is I believe meat and honey.
