Ahem, YOU can propose to HIM! (but still make him get you an engagement ring!  ;))

Oh, man, he'd never let me (or anyone else!)  forget that! No way. I'll have to wait and be patient!

My wedding band belonged to my mother-in-law's mother (my husband's maternal grandmother).  It's quite wide and it's got a very nice flower pattern etched all around it.  No stones, but very pretty nonetheless.  :)

That sounds really nice!

Hmn....I just had an e-mail forwarded from a girlfriend in the U.S, which had been forwarded to her from her sister who is in the wholesale department at Cartier........ I had completely forgotten about that ;)

Doubt that discount extends further than her own family :(

Peedal: the flower engraved ring sounds beautiful, I love designs like that.

we did the cartier, tiffany circut......but honestly i loved the ones at the private jewler just as much and they were much less for better quality.  ;)

i think i was a bit spooked as well as my manager at the time had a gigantic cartier ring and band and ended up divorcing after only under a year.......her husband, (who she was with for 8 years) suddenly decided he didn't want kids after wanting them for so long.   :-X

i love sparkly things....i'm a bit greedy like that.  the more the merrier in all aspects.  but at least i don't let it judge my love for my husband, or how much he loves me......o know PLENTY like that though

For me, the whole thing about engagement rings is the fact that people apparently wear them for the rest of their lives (along with the wedding ring.)  This was absolutely news to me, as my mum has always worn just a plain gold wedding band for most of my life (now replaced by a 3 stone diamond ring my dad gave her last christmas.)

I asked her about it, and she told me she did have a separate engagement ring and wedding ring that she wore together once upon a time, but lost them down the sink when my older brother was a baby.  But now the idea of wearing 2 rings seems weird and unnecessary to me- I guess I could always wear an engagement ring on my right hand though.

It does make me understand why people want expensive diamonds, though- I always wondered what was the point when I thought the engagement ring was going back in the jewelry box anyway?  :)  I think a big diamond would be wasted on me- just the other day I saw a beautiful white gold blue topaz ring that (I think) would be gorgeous as an engagement ring.  The price- $60.  :D

I was taught that you wear the wedding band, with the engagement ring on top of it.  The engagement is supposed to "protect" the marriage.  I've always liked that way of thinking about it.

I was proud of how I very surreptitiously managed to get the engagement ring off my left hand and onto my right just long enough for Phil to place the wedding band on my finger, then put it back again without make a big deal about it!

I've seen people with the other way around, but I've always liked the idea of the marriage being protected by the feelings that led to the engagement in the first place!  ;D

Interesting - - I was taught that you wear your wedding ring under the engagement ring to keep your marriage closer to your heart.  Funny how these traditions can have so many different meanings.

Well I didn't get a diamond when I got engaged and by do I still hear flack about that one.

My DF wanted me to have something unique (at least unique for Michigan) and traditional so I have a traditional sterling silver Claddagh ring, with a GORGEOUS trinity knot band.. most people poo poo it until they see the band then they are like " Ooo that's cool".. almost as if it makes up for the lack of diamond...lol   I LOVE it because it comes from the heart and he took a lot of time picking out the perfect ring :D  There is however one little problem... he kind of got the wrong size.. actually 2 sizes too big...oops.. the size conversion confused him a bit  ;D

Because it is Sterling (sizing it would ruin the band design) and for sentimental reasons I've decided to kept the original ring and wear it on my middle finger and once we are married I'll either switch it to the other hand or wear it on a long chain close to my heart :)

Oh and just for sh*t's and giggles here is the wedding ring we've chosen.

A traditional Russian wedding ring.. though neither of us is Russian... but it looks like we like Tradition  ;D

that is a beautiful ring.  i think a friend of mine had a ring similiar to that- gold/white/rose gold.  i have a feeling it was called a trinity ring from tiffanys?

Hey MeShell,

I just scrolled up and saw the pic of your wedding ring! This ring is beautiful too!! I just love these unique wedding bands. That must look lovely with a 5 stoned eternity ring.  ;D
