Special K diet
« on: August 10, 2005, 04:27:34 PM »
Has anyone tried the Special K diet? I'm still well within what my GP has said is the normal weight range for my height (5'7"--I started off slim), but I want to lose about 25 pounds. I don't typically overeat, but I have a slow thyroid, and I can't do much in the exercise department. Anyone want to join me with the Special K deal?

Yeah, I agree, Aimiloo. Even if I believed in diet, this one doesn't look altogether healthy. I'm more for keeping active to stay fit myself.

I have just attempted it, depends on which one you are trying. There is the lose 10% deal where you just replace one meal with Special K, eat lunch and dinner as normal and replace any snacks with Special K bars or the one where you just do breakfast & lunch as Special K and then a normal dinner for a larger weightloss.

Aimiloo is right, there isn't enough food (or not the way I did it) and the special K bars are crap (Fitnesse ones are nicer) but they are so sugary and cardboardy. I did drop about 5 lbs, but I found it hard to sustain and although I have a fridge at work, I don't feel like soggy cereal at my desk!

I get the impression you don't work (I could be wrong!) I think it's easier if youre at home a lot more, that's when I just did it after knee surgery because I couldn't exercise as normal.

Good Luck though, I think any effort deserves support.

My entire life, I've never paid attention to weight-loss tips because they didn't apply. Now I've gained 25 pounds I don't want, and I can't exercise other than with my arms, because one of my hips is f--ked up. I thought this might be worth a go.

Which one? The first or the second ?  I think if you are able to satisfy any "sweet tooth" moments with the bars or if you can get a lot of your varied food at lunch and dinner, then definitely give it a go.

One thing it does do, is take a lot of guesswork and hassle out of it, especially for someone not on the move a lot, or needing to grab something healthy from a store and there are a lot of different Special K options, I personally can't stand peach/apricot and berry flavoured cereals, so that limited it for me.

One of the reasons I suspect it can be effective is because of the milk, milk/calcium has been shown to aid weightloss and I think a lot of women don't get enough of it.

Is there any chance of swimming with your dodgy hip or is getting to/from in/out of a pool the issue? There is a health hydro pool near me I am going to try (and I know you live fairly near me) it's heated for therapeutic exercise and it might suit you?

Heh. Hence your avatar? ;D   Really good advice, New Dawn. Even a little bit of movement is better than fad diets.

Suzanne, could you do light swimming as an exercise?
