Well, I suppose I have to find a Radio Shack then.

Thanks for the warning before I fried my computer!

(also, I apologise for my typos in this thread   :-\\\\)

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.

You don't have to go to Radio Shack. I went to a couple in Kansas City and they didn't have any plug adapters in stock. You can find worldwide sets of plug adapters at Wal-Mart, K-Mart or Target. For a single plug adapter, go to any luggage/travel store where you are and they'll have them.

Cool. 8)  I'll hit Target before I go.

Thanks!

I've split this topic from one of the LIST topics.
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

To be clear:  It is alright to use just the little plugs with laptops?

I went to a radio shop and the woman showed me a large box type of appliance, which had a transformer in it in order to cut the voltage down to American 125 V, although she said their might be a problem with the amps, so I didnt buy it.

Only just seen this thread, so sorry for jumping in late.

If the power supply on your laptop will run on 240 volts, then you need only the plug adapter to be able to physically connect it to a British wall outlet.

If the supply is designed for 120 volt input only, then you will need to run via a transformer, and the size of transformer needed will depend upon the power drawn by the computer.

Both the allowable input voltages and the required power should be marked on a label on the laptop's power supply.
