Yep - we go through this as well - it's pretty fun actually.  --or am I a glutton for punishment?  :-\\\\

I got the same response to the whole English Muffin thing.  So I started calling Simon my English Muffin ---- something to spread butter on, and he calls me his crumpet.  Yes - we are really that totally sappy.  hehehe  ::)

When I looked into the English muffin thing, I found out that they are English, yet they come under the name crumpet.  Ever eat a crumpet?  They are lovely, and just exactly like "American English Muffins".  Apparenty Thomas (as, in Thomas's English Muffins) started the company when he immigrated to the States.  I don't know why he decided to call them what he did instead of just calling them what they are: crumpets.  But, there you go.

Um, well, no - crumpets and "English" muffins aren't the same thing.  There are muffins - the English variety, not the American ones - and then there are crumpets.

I like muffins.  I don't like crumpets.  They are two different things - just like "English" muffins are different from "American" muffins.

Really? I think they're very different. My husband kept telling me there was no "english muffin." When I first had crumpets a couple months ago I thought they looked similar and were sort of similar but much softer than english muffins and still quite different. I figured maybe it was the American version of crumpets....like they didn't know how to do it right or something. lol

Anyway, at ASDA last week I saw packs of English Muffins! lol

I thought Joss Stone was American until I heard an interview with her.

The big debate we always had was that DH swore up and down that Heinz was an English company and that is why they didn't sell Heinz beans over here.  Well I actually looked it up one day (they have their whole history one their web site) and Heinz was started in the US.  Until recently, their product lines were different in each country,  ( We must not be beans people over here  ;D). He was quite stunned at that.  We also recently stunned my Uncle that the great American company North Face that he loves so much is actually an English company based in Kendal.   :o

BTW, I love English muffins.

Hmmm, the crumpets that my husband buys are just like English Muffins...maybe he's buying the wrong ones.  Well, they are from Aldi...LOL.

and crumpets are more chewy, and less 'bread-like' than muffins.

and crumpets are slightly 'egg-ier', more chewy, and less 'bread-like' than muffins.

Which is why I don't like them.  Ick - they taste like they're raw!

And I used to buy Heinz beans in the US...

Crumpets are good with a variety of toppings.  The butter melting down into the holes is an absolute must, of course, but you can add jams, ornage marmalade, honey, or other things too.     Yes -- Even peanut butter and jelly are good on crumpets!   ;)
