I always thought Wimpy's was a spin off of McD's and Phil always thought the other way around

Maybe because Wimpy was already well-established in Britain before McD came on the scene?

I was pretty sure that McD didn't appear here until the 1970s, and a search reveals that the first British McD opened in London in 1974.  There's some more interesting reading here:

OK here's one. Is it Lacoste or Izod? When I was in high school I used to wear Izod shirts but here they are Lacoste? Are they the same?

I used to wear Izods in school too.  But I knew the full brand name to be Izod Lacoste and we simply shortened it to Izods.

If I'm not mistaken, Izod is a mark of Lacoste.  Sort of like if it was a car - Lacoste is the make, Izod the model.

Ok - this probably solves absolutely nothing, but I bought some raspberry Altoids this weekend.  (they are very good, by the way)

The tin says on the front:  Callard & Bowser  Made in Great Britain
On the back:  Distributed by Callard & Bowser-Suchard, Inc. East Hanover, NJ   Made in Great Britain

Hmm my Altoids gum says it's made in Italy  ??? lol

I did get a good laugh at some of the old ads on their site though, apparently Altoids were originally made to relieve intestinal discomfort! They later ran an ad in the 1920s claiming to be an antidote for poison in the stomach, see no wonder I love those little mints they have all kinds of hidden uses  :D

Hmmm, the crumpets that my husband buys are just like English Muffins...maybe he's buying the wrong ones.  Well, they are from Aldi...LOL.

Songmistress... I tried crumpets from Aldi today. They were..... ewww.  We got them because Tesco was out, for some crazy reason. I suggest trying to get some from a store like Tesco to see what real crumpets are like. ;)

The crumpets from Aldi were a bit like english muffins... at least, they looked like english muffins on the inside.

That makes sense, actually. Mint is good for digestion -- mint tea, etc. Altoids ... they can do anything!!

The crumpets from Aldi were a bit like english muffins... at least, they looked like english muffins on the inside.

Jamie brought home some from Sainsbury's, and though I still, personally, see (taste, feel, whatever) some similarity to English muffins, there is definitely a very nice difference in texture, as well.  So, I can recommend the Sainsbury's ones.  Very nice.  I would have to say, given a choice of one or another, I would have to choose a crumpet over an English muffin everytime. :)
