Strange Question
« on: August 14, 2005, 11:00:40 AM »
Well, maybe it is, maybe it isn't all that strange.  You see, the week before my birthday (July 10th), for my birthday I decided to have my belly button pierced.  I know, I know...craaaaaazy, I should just act my age...but, anyway, I thought my husband would like it (and it was another place to wear jewelry and I'm a bit of a jewelry nut...and, I was so right about my husband ;) ), so Jamie went with me and I had it done.  No problems, it's healed up well, and, again, Jamie really likes it.  The thing is, I never would have had it done, obviously, had I known I was preggers - again, that was something not planned  - and now I don't know the best way to handle it.  Has anyone else had this situation of having a belly button piercing and then getting pregnant?  What did you do?  I've heard that you have to take it out because if you don't the hole just continues to get bigger and bigger and then looks really horrible after the pregnancy.  Well, I obviously don't want that!  But, I know that I have seen some pregnant women (at least 7 months pregnant) walking around with their bars still in (I'm still getting used to women walking around here with their pregnant bellies exposed and what seems to be some kind of weird aversion to wearing PROPER MATERNITY CLOTHES...but, that's another topic), so I wondered if it's something that only happens to some women (the hole getting bigger and bigger, that is) and not to others.  Of course, I would think, one wouldn't want to take the chance, would they?

Anywho....any thoughts?  Experiences?  Share, share...please.

Have 2 friends who've had piercings with pregnancy.  One took hers out and she now has 2 scars about 3 inches long on her stomach.  The other one took hers out but had no problems and popped her ring back in as soon as she felt like it.   I don't know if that helps...
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

As you've given birth a few times, it's likely you'll get a bump sooner than say, a first-time mum.  Think I'd leave it in for now and then wait and see if it was gonna work w/your bump.

It...helps, yes.  But, what it tells me is that I just might be "damned if I do, damned if I don't".  Scary....but, Jamie assures me that he won't be turned off by me if I have a couple of three inch scars; he's wonderful.  But, I mean, THREE INCH SCARS! :o I so wish I hadn't had it done now...but, I had no way of knowing at the time...~~sigh~~

Expat, yep...leaving in it for now...might as well.  I haven't started to show...yet, but I know it's imminent.

I kept mine in during my first pregnancy and ended up with a very interesting (to use a positive term) circular stretch mark around the site.  I also gained a ton of weight, which I'm sure didn't help at all.  In hindsight, I wish I would have taken it out and had it redone after childbirth.

Nothing about the scars or holes or anything, but I found that the bigger I got the more sensitive my Belly button became, to the point where I got uncomfortable with my clothes even rubbing up against it, let alone metal!  ::)
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!
