US immigration for British spouse
« on: August 15, 2005, 08:50:11 AM »
we will be flying into Cincy, Ohio next month for a visit.  Baby and I have American passports, but my husband doesn't.

I wondered if anyone has travelled to the States recently and can advise about how long it takes to get through Immigration, etc. (for a British person)  It's been over two years since we were last there, so he will need to be fingerprinted and whatever else.

Thanks,
Theresa M

As a family unit and married , there's no need for your husband to go through a seperate line....as far as I know he can go through with you.

He will need to be fingerprinted if he hasn't in the past. Usually British citizens have an easier time getting through immigration than some other passport holders (IMHO). Hope this is the case for your husband.

We've started using CVG airport recently for our trips back and forth and have found the Immigration people there the nicest! It's a lot calmer than most of the other gateway airports--you should have no problems

We were in Canada in July crossing over to the US via car....boy what a pain immigration was there....we had to get out of our cars...go inside the building stand in a crowd and push our way to the front for my english hubby to pay $6...also i had to use the toilet there was only one for male and females with no lock on the door....we flew into toronto and were driving into detroit....they were so disorganized...unbelievable

Not true, at least in Denver.  I asked if DW could go through the US line with me and they said no, that they weren't setup for her as a UK passport holder to go through.

When we got back to Heathrow, they let me through the UK line and I didn't have a UK passport!

Of course, you could all go through the non-US line where you could wait 20-30 minutes if it's busy, I'd guess.
