Contact Lenses
« on: August 16, 2005, 01:43:18 PM »
I know that contact lens solution (at least the kind I use) is much cheaper here than I've been able to find it in Scotland.  How about contact lenses?  I've got an eye appointment on Wednesday for new glasses, and I'm wondering if I should stock up on contacts here, or just get a couple of boxes and then get more as I need them in the UK.
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I don't wear them all the time, but last time I think I got 30 pair for £30.

When I do bother to wear them, they are daily disposables, so no need for solutions.

I do have a bottle of Saline from Boots, but only for rewetting them during the day if they get too dry (the drops don't work for me - makes the dryness worse for some reason!).

I go to Dolland & Aitchinson.

It may well depend upon your prescription. My vision is atrocious so contacts are always expensive for me (no disposables for me!). Glasses in general are cheaper in the US - I even have English co-workers who buy their glasses in the US. Also, since I don't wear disposables, I always stock up on solution at Target. I use their own brand which is the same stuff as the name brands and LOADS cheaper there. It's very expensive here, IMO. I think you can get some comparable prices for disposable contacts here but I imagine others may chime in on that!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I wear gas permeable semi-rigid lenses...I went for an eye exam here in the UK and was quoted an outrageous price for new ones (I wear each pair for a few years)...so I am thinking of having my mom try to get me a new pair from my old eye doc or to try to wait until I go back next June. I have been told to shop around for lenses and glasses, which I really need to do because maybe I will find a pair I can afford, but I just haven't taken the time yet. I find my solution to be just a bit more here than in the US...not too much of a big deal.

Get a "script" from your optomotrist if you're still in the States and stock up there if ya can  because I can tell ya YEAH they ARE more expensive in the U.K.....(scripts are good for a year in the States, here ya don't even need one to buy from this website, but the .com requires it).................www.visiondirect.com
