Do they have a policy of not letting you know? I wanted to know with both my kids and thankfully the scanners were more than happy to go hunting for bits. Glad baby is okay!!

They used to, but now they don't have a policy of anything b/c women in Edinburgh are only offered one scan - at 12 weeks, when it's too soon to tell - unless something goes wrong, like the midwife can't find the baby's heartbeat w/two different dopplers.

Unless of course you go private and pay £140.

Dunno, cuz we didn't get to see anything!  It was a GREAT scanner, too.  You could really see a lot - like all the vessels in the cord, the 4 chambers of the heart, the organs.  AW!  It feels more real now.

Andrew missed the 13 week one, so he got to see the baby this time.

Aww bummer! Well at least baby is healthy!  Have you thought of anymore names?  ;D

We're thinking Roisin Angela for a girl.  No boy names yet.

Aww that's lovely!  You've got plenty of time to think of a boys name :)

Does your hospital also double as a school? Ours does and we were able to particpate in a fetal research program that tested the baby's hearing. Basically they played a tone on my belly while they watched the baby on the scanner, and did it all through the pregnancy, and let me keep a video copy of each session. It was kind of cool & very exciting. If you are into the whole scan thing, it might be worthwhile checking to see if your hospital does a similar program? Kinda sucks they only offer one scan, I think the standard is two or three over here, one when the baby is really tiny and then another when the baby is more recognizably baby. I must say, the maternity services in Belfast are very, very good.

Don't know if they do any teaching.  Now that they've had a good look at baby's organs and determined everything is allright in that respect, I'm not too bothered about not having any more scans.  I had a lot w/the last pregnancy b/c of hypertension.

It's just a shame that they don't routinely offer the 20 week one to screen for organ abnormalities.

My friend's SIL had two girls, and her husband really, really wanted to try for a boy. After a lot of debating, they finally decided to try one last time for a boy. She ended up pregnant with twin girls. :o

Thanks.  That's so encouraging. :-[

(Yes, I did ask.  I'm not saying you shouldn't have said it.)

You're braver than I am.  Nothing could induce me to be pregnant a third time.

Sorry, didn't mean for it to come off quite so deafeating.  It was actually meant to be a bit of a laugh.  :-\\\\

It was.  A bit of a laugh, I mean.  I'm just in a slightly defeatist frame of mind at the moment, I guess.  No worries.  :)

I'll send you my pregnancy cravings, heartburn and shortness of breath to take your mind off it  ;D ;).
