Another Visa Question!
« on: August 18, 2005, 09:19:17 PM »
Yes, I have another question on my visa application.  My UK fiance gets housing benefits (due to disability) and rents a council house.  Will I have a problem living with him before we are married?  We will get married just as soon as we can after I arrive there with my visa.  Also, his parents rent a council house, would it be better for me to see if I can stay there until we are married?  Thanks for your help, you people are wonderful and patient!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

No.  He is entitled to claim and receive any benefits, as he is a UK national.  Once you marry and get a job, however, you must report your income to whatever agency is administering his benefits and the amount of any means-tested benefits he receives - housing/council tax benefit, incapacity benefit, income support, Working Tax Credit, Disabled Persons Tax Credit, etc. he receives may change.  But anyone in a marriage or partnership akin to marriage must be evaluated on a joint basis for all means-tested benefits.
