The Time Travellers Wife
« on: August 22, 2005, 12:44:26 PM »
Fantastic book. Heartwrenching and so entertaining. Very sexy and funny. LOVED it. I couldn't keep my nose out of it.

Quote
Synopsis
This extraordinary, magical novel is the story of Clare and Henry who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-two and Henry thirty. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into his past or future. His disappearances are spontaneous and his experiences are alternately harrowing and amusing. The Time Traveler's Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare's passionate love for each other with grace and humour. Their struggle to lead normal lives in the face of a force they can neither prevent nor control is intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.

Apparently Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston bought the rights and they were rumoured to be both starring in it. I doubt this is true now, which is unfortunate. Maybe not, I don't think Brad Pitt would have been good for the part of Henry.  Jennifer would be a good Clare, though.

You have to read it, really. Go. Now. Get it. It's dead cheap. About £5.

There a quite a few posts about this book in the "What ya reading?" thread. I agree, Ashley, I absolutely loved and adored this book. The story was beautifully sad.

Yeah, just noticed that. It seems that's what we were going to read for the book club. Oops.

Oh well, I just had to give it it's own thread. It deserves it.  ;)

Me too...okay then...who shall we cast as Henry?

While Jennifer may be a good Claire...I kinda pictured Claire as a Kirsten Dunst (sp?) look alike.

oooh sorry...or is this a thread hijack?  ;)

I really enjoyed this book too. I can't imagine a film of it, it could get very confusing.

Johnny Depp!! Johnny Depp!! Except he's not quite the same build as Henry is described as, is he? I'm willing to slide on that one, though ;D       OR  Colin Farrell?  Ioan Gruffud?

Claire could be played by . . . . Scarlett Johannson?

Oh wow, Aimiloo just saw your post! That's a good one!

He may be too old for it now, but I think William Hurt would be a fantastic Henry!

I really loved the book, too.  So much of it reminded me of what it felt like when Richard "disappeared" (had to go back to the UK after a visit).  ;)

I think Hugh Jackman would be good. He's tall and lanky, sort of.
