Thinking about moving to England~with 2 kids!!!
« on: August 24, 2005, 12:01:12 AM »
I have met a very special man from England and he would love for me and my two kids, ages 6 and 8 to move to England. Aside from immigration and all that, does anyone have anything to share about raising kids in the UK? (who have been born in the USA). Any info/advice would be appreciated, thanks.

5 years ago I brought my two sons over. At the time they were 2 and 5. Everything went very well. Have a read through the preg and parenting forum. There are a lot of threads regarding this subject!
Best of luck!

I am also considering a move to England.  I have two girls.  4 and 16 mos.  My main concern is that they get a proper education.  My wife is applying for teaching positions and I would consider staying home with the baby until she can start school.  I know that there is always a downside to moving kids out of their comfort zone, but the upside of leaving the U.S. and going to a place more civilized, and known for good educations has to be the best choice to make.  Any suggestions/advice would help.

Hi, I am also thinking about moving to England but I have a 13 year old daughter.  I was wondering how hard that might be for her to adjust since it would probably be easier if she was younger.  Has anyone out there had the experience of moving from the U.S. to the UK with a teenager?  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I have 5 year-old twin boys...we moved here when they were three (the could have attended nursery as they start full-day here at three) but did not start until the following fall as they only had a few months left in the school year anyway. They have had a rough time this year in YR 1 at times because most children are already 6 and they are the youngest as they won't be 6 until the end of next summer! The problem is with their teacher however, this is her first year, and last year in Reception they had no problems at all. Kids this age are quite easy to move!

Teenagers aren't quite as easy and it is up to the individual! There is another thread about moving with teenagers.

Good luck with your moves!  :)
