Pretty much the price is going to be about the same give or take a couple pounds if you are looking at online resources, so I would go with whatever place you like, Apple.com/co.uk or Amazon.co.uk; if you want to go to the High Street Dixon's or the like. We got our iPod at Dixon's and the external speakers from Amazonuk. The other accessories, the car/tape player adapter and cigarette lighter charger I got in the states from Target. You can also get the Monster iCable from Amazon, which connects the iPod to your aux hole on your stereo.

I'm definitely going to get one by the dollar, just wasn't sure where the most competitive prices are.

To be honest I didn't find that there was a huge savings re the actual iPod in dollars vs sterling, but in some of the accessories there are. If you do get the US iPod just be sure to pick up the UK charger apparatus (although you'll also be able to charge via your computer, or if you get a docking station here or speakers with a docking thing, it's just handy to plug it in the wall).

Good idea, thank you.
I bought my digital camera in the US, so I use a basic adapter for the battery charger here.  I could use it also for the iPod, yes?

You don't actually take out the batteries in the ipod.  You hook up the whole thing.  But like Stells Marie said you can charge through your computer.

No need wasting your money on the extra Apple charge plugs.  You can use a plug converter with them as they support both 120 and 240 V current.  The only twist is you need a plug converted that accepts a polarized plug.  You can usually get them for about just a few bucks or pounds.

Nothing good ever comes from a bad attitude.

I am sorry, I haven't read the whole thread as I am not an I-Podder, BUT if you like Walkers Crisps, they are offering a mini-ipod free every 5 minutes in September from a code on the pkt of crisps- might be worth a try :)

We did it. We bought a 20gig colour one.  [smiley=smitten.gif]

We thought for a while about getting 2 minis and just swapping them around, but we ended up with the 20gig because even 2 minis don't hold nearly as many songs. J's been loading it up while I've been at work so hopefully I'll be able to play with it a bit in the next couple of days.

It's far heavier than I expected, but I do love it so.  ;D

Let's see, we got it in the US, and I can definitely back up the "no need to buy the special adaptor kit" thing - just plug it in with a plug converter and it's fine. And I can also confirm that the cost savings of buying it in the US is negligable. I think we probably only saved around £20 but we had the cash and it seemed stupid to convert it back to pounds 'cause the exchange rate wasn't all that hot. If you can get a good deal in a duty free shop you might do better - I know there's a Dixons at Heathrow. We got ours at Target which was pretty much the cheapest place, but their stock was pretty low and we had to go to two stores to find the one we wanted and even then we got the last one.

I personally like the Creative Zen Jukebox Xtra...

Right now in the US you can get a 60GB one for about $225.  The user interface is amazing too.  Very easy to use.  It doesn't look as pretty as the IPOD but it's a lot of space for the money.  And I actually filled about 55GB of it so I guess I was going for the space.

Was thinking about the Toshiba Gigabeat with its pretty colored screen, but it's gotten very bad reviews...
