I'm going to court today...
« on: August 25, 2005, 01:02:03 PM »
Today @ 2pm (North Carolina time)  I go to court because the father of my almost 5 year old son has decided to fight me on my move to england.  I know that a lot of you have been in similar situations so I'm posting this only to garner some support cos I'm feeling a little nervous right now!!  I won't go into the particulars of my case but my attorney assures me that I'm not going to lose custody of my son and the judge is not going to order me to stay here since my husband is already living and working in the UK.  I've had sole custody of my son since he was born & the fact that he was born out of wedlock & his dad has only filed for custody because I want to move work in my favor.  I've done a lot of my own legal research plus my attorney used to be a judge so I feel really good about him being so confident about the situation.  It's still uncharted territory for me tho... I've never even been to court for a speeding ticket!!  My only court experience really is watching Law & Order!!  Once court is finished I'm booking my flights for Sunday & planning to get out of here cos I haven't seen my husband in 5 weeks so I'm anxious to get to the UK!!

So, any of you who pray are welcome to do that on my behalf!  I'll let you know how it goes!!

Leslie, you have my prayers, as well.  Let us know.  It is encouraging that your attorney is confident; trust him and attempt not to worry (easier said, I know).

I wish I could have my girls with me here in the UK, but right now it just isn't an option.  But, I hope that all will go well with you and you will be over here soon, with both your husband and your son!

I just now realized that I forgot to let you all know how court went!!  I think my brain went on hiatus after the court stuff!!

Everything went better than I could have even expected!!  I prayed and prayed that I wouldn't even have to have a hearing... and as it turns out I didn't!!  The attorneys met with the judge in the back and he told them there was no way he was taking my son away from me and since my husband is a fit and proper step parent he wasn't going to order me to stay in NC.  In the end the judge and the attorney's hashed out a visitation schedule and we each went over it with our attorneys and then had to sign it.  It took a couple of hours from start to finish but it was absolutely as painless as you can possibly get when you're dealing with such an emotionally charged situation!

I leave tomorrow to come to England and I'm so excited I can't sit still!!  I haven't seen my husband in over 5 weeks!  I can't wait!!

Oh good I am glad things turned out well and I wish you both lots of luck
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.
