Where can we find thost darn US-UK plug converters?
« on: August 25, 2005, 04:10:44 PM »
Hi All,

I have tried Currys and some hardware store that was next door to it in Feltham and have not been able to find these little things. Anyone know a place where I could pick a few up?

Thanks,
R

PS: Yes, I am here. Arrived monday last week. Finally got phone, dsl and tv setup via telewest. So far so good! 8)

Try Milletts or somewhere that sells travel gear.  I know our Millets stocks them.

Thanks for the info... and so quick! ;D

I can't believe these things are going for 2.99 a pop! Maybe the deal I found on ebay UK was good after all (50p each!)

Ryman has them in London.. I saw some today in the Post Office.  Just keep your eyes open, especially at places that sell office supplies.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Assuming that you need just the plug adapter, not a transformer to convert to 120 volts:

To be honest, most of these adapters are of mediocre quality at best, and if you need a large number of them it's going to work out rather expensive.

For things which will run directly on 240V and which you don't plan on repatriating to America any time in the near future, I'd consider simply cutting off the plug and wiring to a British plug instead.  The standard plug is much cheaper than an adapter, and it isn't difficult to wire.  Once you've done a couple you'll soon get the hang of it.

Thats a great idea. For some of the cords, this would probably be the best option.

With most of these cords, I can actually just get the power cable part - although that is likely to cost the same as a adapter.

I plan on going to the bentalls centre in kingston today.... maybe I can find something there that will do the job at a reasonable price. Althought from what I can see, bentalls is probably not the place for bargain hunters.

Thanks,
R
