Taxes in the Uk
« on: August 29, 2005, 05:07:17 PM »
Does anyone have any information if I need to pay taxes in the UK if I am going to be working only for a year.  I heard that if you work in the UK for less than two years there is no need to take out taxes from your paycheck.  I know I have to pay taxes to Uncle Sam if I have been less than 330 days in the UK during a tax year.  I just need to find out now if I have to pay taxes in the Uk.  Does anyone know if this is correct?  And the source on where to find accurate information in writing.

Any information I would appreaciate.

Depends on what's entailed in the year.  When do you start?  When do you end?  If it's staggered over the UK tax year (Apr 6 - Apr 5), you might be nonresident for one period and resident for another.  Your situation allows for some very creative tax accounting.  You could pay less tax than you ever have in your life - or you could get burned with more.  I'd get serious advice to reduce your taxes if I were you, rather than generic website posts.  www.taxationweb.co.uk has loads of folks who are itching to have your business (I'm one of them...)
