Balance is the key.  Golden throughout.  Not too light, not too dark.

Toast?
« on: August 31, 2005, 01:26:45 PM »
I fixed myself beans on toast for lunch.  And so, I got to thinking about toast preferences.

I like mine perfectly toasted: crunchy (not soft or wiggly anywhere, that's for freshly baked bread), golden throughout, no burnt bits (this is nearly impossible to get right, however, unless one owns a magic toaster...so, I have to make do with close enough).

How do you like yours?

I prefer perfectly toasted, too, but will err on the side of slightly burned rather than eat soggy toast.  Ick.

And butter has to cover every surface inch.  No bare spots.

Light golden... drowned in REAL butter (not marg!).  I like it kind of chewy, not crunchy.

OH!  YES.  Real butter is a must.  I consider margarine to be some sort of food perversion; just wrong!

I totally agree with you, esp. on the REAL butter bit.    Unless I put peanut butter on it then it needs to be slightly burnt.
Only Time will tell.. it's just too bad she's a closed mouth B**!!!

What a strange thread.  :)

I used to use "spread" until I realized I was probably using twice as much in an attempt to get some taste out of it. Now I've switched to butter.....

I hate even vaguely burnt toast. I'd much rather have it chewier than crunchier too....

LOL!  Yeah, well...leave it to me.  Chalk it up to my temporary (well, we hope it's temp anyway) absence of sanity. (What's it been now?  31 years?)

Lightly charred is alright with me.  (Somewhere between golden & completely burnt.)

We have to make toast at work and believe me, people have very strong opinions on what is the perfect piece of toast.  I have a rep for not toasting it long enough, while one of my collegues charrs it(IMO) :)

And the worst part of when someone orders toast is that then other people smell it and everybody wants some.   :)

No, soggy toast is nasty!! I have to leave mine for a while once it's out of the toaster to get fully crisped before I'll butter it. I'm very fussy about my toast.  :-\\\\

Me too. :) I don't even put it in the toaster. I toast it in the oven so it gets crisp. Soggy toast is just icky. :P
