I have never even so much as known a Tim, let alone dated one.  Josh?  That's a different story altogether.  ;)

I've gone out with two Josh's....one for about two weeks, the other for about a month.  :P

(Matt was for three years, tim was for a year)

I plan to name my first daughter "Lux," hence my user name :)  It's from a movie I really like.  My mother hates it and say there's too many nasty words that rhyme with it like "Sucks" or "F%#!s" etc.  Maybe I'll change my mind in a few years.

What about the soap flakes connotations???

Yea, that's true. Kids will be so cruel! It doesn't take much for kids to make fun of a name. I got "Polly wanna cracker?" all of the time and my name wasn't even Polly!

My mother said the same thing!!!  I had no idea what it was?  I dunno if I care, I guess you could be named after something more atrocious than soap? :) heh

You're right but kids will come up with mean stuff out of anything.  My cousin got called "bald eagle" because of her large forehead and I felt so bad for her.  Of course now she's long forgotten that...

Anyway, I think unless childrens' names are super super mainstream (like top 50) and if it something different, they are always going to have that chance of getting made fun of.

Not that traditional names by any means aren't great, but not everyone can be a John or Sarah, right?  :)

Girls’ Names:[/u]

Mary
Kathryne
Rowan
Elisabeth
Eithné
Anya/Aiyana/Anna/Anne
Madison
Emma/Emily
Anastasia
Evie / Eva
Alaϊs (taken from Kate Mosse’s Labyrinth. I believe it’s the Occitan French version of Alice.

Boys’ Names: [/u]

Japeth (one of my best friends’ name)
Michael (used only as a middle name; this is both dh & above said friend’s middle names)
Jake (would probably have this as a nickname, though)
Benjamin
Sebastian
Jacob
Aidan
Ethan
Noah
Joshua
Rohan
Ashlar (taken from Anne Rice’s vampire books)

Dh is a bit miffed at his brother for taking “his” son’s name: Jack Anthony, which is after both grandfathers. And I refuse to use it or even to change the names around. I do, however, like Jackson. He also likes Charlotte, but the only way I’d use this name is as a middle name. I’d probably shorten it to Charlie.

I’ve a feeling dh and I will argue over names. He doesn’t like most of what I like. He thinks kids should be named after family members, especially sons, but I have no intention of naming any of my sons after my father, grandfather, etc (Gary Malcolm, Marvin Maize = ugh) or dh’s relatives (Brian, Mark, Nicholas, Jack, Anthony). I did tell dh I’ll have to be blown away by a name and I get finally say-so since I’ll[/i] be the one carrying the baby for 9 months! LOL :D [smiley=laugh4.gif]

Very very far away from having my own kids (if I ever do!) but....

For girls, I'm currently liking Cassandra (Cassie) and Calista (Cally).  I have this thing about being able to make a nickname out of whatever name I choose- my name has a nickname, but I never liked it all that much and most people associate it with a guy's name.  I want my kids to have cool nicknames ;) My first name choice is/was Katharine (spelled that way in honor of Katharine Hepburn), but Tom's sister's name is Kate, so that probably wouldn't be happening if we had kids.  I'm very partial to Katelyn for a middle name, though....but then that doesn't really go with my 2 favorites right now...le sigh  ;)

I have a much harder time coming up with boys' names....right now I like Alexander and Rhys (since Tom is half Welsh, after all!)

If I ever have kids I want them to have a name where I can make a nickname out of them as well!!!  If I ever have a girl I am going to name her Geneva and caller Ginny.

Boys: Hunter, Austin, Brady, Jordan

Girls: McKenna, Sydney, Kierra, Alexis

I know you posted this some time ago, but I have a McKenna and a Sydney. Unusual names and even more unusual to see somone pick both. Cool.

I have recently thought of my daughter Sydney being in the UK, as I know that Sydney is definitely used there more as a boys name. I guess I can't stress too much. I love her name and she's been a Sydney for 8 years, it's not like I can change it because we are moving to England. You just never want your kids to get picked on, but kids make fun of other kids fo so many reasons, not just names.

Cruel children actually really get on my very last nerve. It's not the childs fault, but the parents. When I see it, I just can't help but wonder why parents aren't teaching more about compassion.

I wouldn't worry too much.  There's been a lot more variety of names in the last ten years or so, and I think there are some Sydneys after Melrose Place was shown here-seriously.  There are a lot of names that have become really popular because of Australian  or American soaps that you never would have heard before(Shannon springs to mind).
