The Hogmanay street party . . . what a good way to ruin a bottle of perfectly good whisky and a fine episode of 'Chewin' the Fat'.

Hiya!  Ok, there are those of you (you know who you are ;)) who will say -- "Avoid Edinburgh at New Year/Hogmanay like the plague!! Too many crowds, etc!"  I hear ya.

Aw....I'd take him/her....for a wee while, anyway.
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

ahhhh, i get it now!
i wasnt deliberately (  ;) ) trying to be unhelpful... it's just that the Edinburgh Street Party is the last thing i would ever do on Hogmanay, so i cant really advise you!
And because i live so near to Edinburgh, ive never stayed in a hotel there, so cant advise on that either!

Pure useless, me!  ;)

They do have sort of a cute cry when they're itty bitty.  For a few months, anyway.

I think the one in George Square is better than the Edinburgh one.
But i am too old and fed up for either of them, these days!

Yeh, I'm old too...but I have to keep pace with my toy boy husband. :D

i wasnt deliberately (  ;) ) trying to be unhelpful...

I know. :)

Expat -- so when will the special delivery be arriving? [smiley=kid.gif]

Anyone want to meet up for coffee or whatnot whilst I'm up there?

It's due 18 December.  Am hoping it shows up on time or sooner.

Got the parentals here from 25 December on, however.

Hi Carolyn,

When we were looking around Edinburgh deciding where we wanted to live, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Leith, right near the docks.  It may not be what you're looking for but it is dependable, and is in a great location.  It's a stone's throw away from Ocean Terminal, which is a big shopping centre, and has really good bus links.  It is a bit out of town (about a ten minute taxi ride tops), but if I were you, I'd want a nice quiet place to sleep.  :)

But we're still planning to go...So, any suggestions on good places to stay -- not too far from the action?  (Not necessarily smack in the middle.)  Hotels, B&Bs, etc?  Doesn't have to be dirt cheap but not 5-star either.  Anyone?  Any ideas?  Ppl who know the area or have been?

I went 2 years ago. We stayed at a lodge that had just opened-Premier, I think. Walking distance from the castle. I can look up the address if you want it-very nice and reasonable. Fireworks at the castle were cancelled at the last minute because of gale-force winds, but we still had a lovely time. Didn't go down to the street party, though. Walked around Edinburgh on New Years Day and went to a lovely Thai place, too. Don't fprget to send in for your Hogmany tickets soon.

Thanks for everyone's ideas & suggestions.  Hubby booked us into this place:

http://www.wayfarerguesthouse.co.uk/

So we've got that sorted.  We can't book the train tix until early October, and the event tix that we are wanting do not go on sale until Oct 1.  I'll let you know how it was after. :)

Ok anyone -- last minute tips or advice for Edinburgh/Hogmanay?  We've got our train tix, party passes, and B&B accommodations, but I'm not sure if it's the link I posted above or their other property which is this...  http://www.ardenlee.co.uk/

Anyways...any restaurant suggestions?  Must-sees?  Etc?  And where is that Lupe Pintos place?

I know we may have some constraints what with the crowds and also maybe places being closed on some of the holiday, New Years Day or whatever.
