I'm aware of US entry requirements, but still don't care -- don't have plans to go on a family holiday there. Niall can decide at a later stage if he would like to be tied to the tax/draft system.

We've never gone there, either.  My dad paid for Aillidh to have it.  I still find the whole tax/draft thing absolutely ridiculous, particularly for people who've never set foot there.

I agree, its absurd. Its one of the many reasons why we don't want to register her as a dual citizen

Well, if it's a lawful requirement, I'm breaking the law.  I haven't reported by son's birth and don't have any intentions of it.
Neither of my Brit born sons are registered. I am hoping they change the laws. I think its disgraceful the US government telling us we HAVE to register the births of our Brit children.
So what happens if we all go to the USA together and my husband takes my Brit sons through passport control and I go through with my American sons. Will they know?
I dont have any intentions of taking the boys back to the USA anytime soon but this is something we have been thinking about.

This is just a guess, but if you get caught, I suspect you'll get a raft of shite from the immigration people and I suppose there is always the chance that they could send the non-American children back to the UK.

I hope they change the laws too, but I won't hold my breath!

Well its total crap! AND if the US government wants us to register the births of our children then why do WE have to pay for it? Its an inconvenience and expensive. Totally ridiculous! >:(

Well its total crap!

Couldn't have said it better myself. ;)

I don't understand the 'requirement' for registration and a passport if you want to visit the US.  Why shouldn't the children simply be treated as any other person coming in on the visa waiver program?

Very good point!

So what happens if we just plead ignorance? "I never knew I had to register their births!!"  :o

I think someone posted about that not too long ago, I think they got an earful from the officers and were told next time they came to the US they need to have an American passport. What I would do *IF* we decide to visit the US ,is have Dale go through immigrations with her alone and have me behind em going in alone
